Hosting an event at your school can be exciting and stressful. It takes some serious prep work, but ultimately, hosting an event at your school is no different than hosting an event in your home. You want your guests to feel comfortable, be happy and have fun! Try to keep this in mind when planning your event. If you have fun planning it and let your "creative juices" flow, your guests will have fun too! Below you'll find some tools that might help you along the way.
Keep it interactive- activities in classroom, basketball practice, students demonstrating a science lesson
Passports to encourage parents to visit each room- prize at the end if you have certain number of stamps on passport
Activities to keep smaller children busy while parents take school tour
Invite current parents as a retention activity and also to ensure that there is a crowd
Recognize the gifts of your teachers and utilize them appropriately
Consider a theme
Offer incentives for current families to bring a new family or prize for attending
Be prepared to enroll new families if they want to enroll the day of open house
Entrance sign and welcome/have students in uniform wait by door to guide people to main office
Ask parent ambassadors to wait outside of church and direct people to school
People available who are bilingual

Idea of the Month:
Want to share your school's story in a quick snapshot? Why not consider an infographic to get your point across. Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Glenview used piktochart to create their infographic. This is a great way to capture and express some key facts about your school in an engaging way. It would be great to have something like this ready for Open House in January.
An interesting read. Ever wonder why families choose private schools? This article addresses that question. Here are the top reasons parents choose private schools:
Better learning environment
Smaller class sizes
More individual attention
Better preparation for college
And here is the information that parents want from a school:
Curriculum and courses
College acceptance rate
Standardized test results
Keep all of this in mind when making your school's infographic or updating marketing materias!
