WMCT? Local theater updates from Heather Parish, the artistic director of The New Ensemble.
July CalendarOne of the quirks you'd find on my iPhone is a calendar of all of the Fresno shows that come across my radar. Take a gander at that calendar! If you can't find a show to see on the weekends this summer, you're not looking hard enough!

Which ones am I anticipating? Well, I've carved out time in my schedule for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf at ART, and I've already bought my Passport for StageWorks Fresno's entire season. Then I'll probably change up the pace with a jaunt into West Side Story somewhere in there. You should, too!

So plan some time with some local creativity this summer and go see a show!

Casting Shake-Up at ART

Indie theater company Artists Repertory Theatre (ARTFresno) is in the process of mounting its production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf under the direction of Fresno State theatre professor Brad Myers.  After some bumps in the casting road, the director himself will step into the role of George.

The play is a modern classic by Edward Albee and is known for its cutting witticisms and deeply felt realism. The rest of the cast includes Leslie Martin, Bridget Martin, and Justin Ringhofer.

Two Indie Companies Team Up for Farce

Two new(ish) indie companies have teamed up to present a short run of Steve Martin's hilarious adaptation of classic German play, The Underpants. Jump Right In Productions and Curtain 5 Theatre Group will present the farce about snobbery and conformity at the Fresno Soap Company in the Tower District.

Good Company Players Reveals 2015 Season on Facebook

The Good Company Players did a slow reveal of their 2015 season worthy of Gypsy Rose Lee, taking 12 days over two weeks to announce each new title on their Facebook Page. Man, I'd love to see their social media engagement stats over those two weeks!

The announcement of a few of the titles got the Fresno-theaterverse's hearts thumping a little louder right from the start. Christopher Durang's 2013 Tony Award Winner, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, will kick off the season at the 2nd Space.  (Audition info here.)

The entire season looks something like this:

Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater:  Crazy for You, Oliver, South Pacific, All Shook Up, Shenandoah, and A Christmas Story - the musical.

At 2nd Space: Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Always a Bridesmaid, The Cripple of Inishmaan, A Flea in Her Ear, Shadowlands, and Meet Me in St. Louis.
