1. Election Results

As of 7 a.m. today, the big news out of Georgia is a Republican sweep of state constitutional offices with a runoff likely in the U.S. Senate race.

🗳 Despite Mayor Andre Dickens announcing Tuesday night that "Georgia is blue," incumbent Republican Gov. Brian Kemp easily beat Democratic challenger Stacey Abrams in their ballyhooed rematch.

😑 Georgia's other most-watched race appears headed for a Dec. 6 runoff after Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker were in a dead heat all night for the U.S. Senate seat. In the latest numbers, Warnock leads Walker by about 29,000 votes, but was still below the 50% needed to win. Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver proved to be the spoiler with more than 2% of the vote.

😏 Once thought to be political roadkill after Trump blamed him for losing Georgia, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger won a second term beating Democrat Bee Nguyen and Libertarian Ted Metz.

🍷 For late-morning drinkers, Fulton County passed a referendum that will allow alcohol sales to begin at 11 a.m. on Sundays at package stores, wine shops, and grocery stores.

🗳 Republicans won Georgia races for Attorney General, Agriculture Commissioner, Insurance Commissioner, and Labor Commissioner.

🗳 Jason Esteves, a Democrat, will go to the Georgia Senate, filling Jen Jordan's seat.

🗳 Josh McLaurin (D) beat Liz Hausmann (R) to win State Senate District 14.

🗳 In Georgia House 53, Deborah Silcox (R) beat Kelly Coffman (D).

🗳 Inga Willis (D) easily beat Sam Lenaeus (D) to win Buckhead's District 55.

🗳 Long Tran (D) won District 80.

🗳 Democratic incumbents Betsy Holland and Shea Roberts also won their seats.

📍Cobb County voters approved making Mableton a new city. It will become the county's largest.

• Control of the U.S. House of Representatives remains up in the air after Democrats did better than expected in closely watched races.

• The U.S. Senate also remains a toss-up with results still unknown in Arizona, Nevada, and Wisconsin. In other key races, Democrat John Fetterman won in Pennsylvania, Democrat Maggie Hassan in New Hampshire, and Republican J.D. Vance won in Ohio.

• For the first time since Reconstruction, Florida's statewide elected officials include zero Democrats. Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Marco Rubio both cruised to victory

• Democrats won notable Governor races in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
Take Steps for Cancer Awareness

👟 On Saturday, Nov. 12 from 6:30-11 a.m., join the Spot Her initiative at the Eastside BeltLine 3K-10K to take steps for endometrial cancer awareness.

🍑 Spot Her aims to help end the silence around endometrial cancer, a type of uterine cancer, by raising awareness about gynecologic health symptoms that are often overlooked or dismissed. Like our state fruit, the color for endometrial cancer awareness is peach, and Spot Her’s peach path after the finish line will lead you to more information and tips for how to talk to your doctor.

❗️In Georgia, uterine cancer is the 4th most diagnosed cancer in women, with more than 1,700 estimated new cases in 2022. Identifying symptoms and seeking help is especially important for the Black community, as only 53% of Black women with endometrial cancer receive an early diagnosis.

2. Takeoff memorial set for Friday

🎶 A  public memorial service for slain Atlanta rapper Takeoff is set for noon on Fri., Nov. 11 at State Farm Arena.

Free tickets were available to Georgia residents only starting yesterday afternoon, but are now sold out. Fans were able to secure a maximum of two tickets, which will be non-transferrable, and parties must enter the venue together.

If you're going, guests are strongly encouraged to arrive early, with doors opening at 11 a.m. State Farm Arena will offer free parking for ticketed guests in the Ruby Lot (100 Baker St. Extension, Atlanta, 30303) until the lot is full. This is a limited-capacity event, and it is recommended that fans who do not have tickets do not come to the arena.

Takeoff, who was born Kirsnick Khari Ball, was co-founder of Migos, formed in Lawrenceville, GA in 2008. The group scored four Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Takeoff was shot and killed at a bowling alley in Houston, TX on Nov. 1. Police are still searching for the gunman.

3. Oakland Cemetery's 'crown jewel' restored

🪦  The refurbishment of Oakland Cemetery’s historic Bell Tower is complete, and a ribbon-cutting celebration is set for Nov. 16 to mark the occasion.

Historic Oakland Foundation and the City of Atlanta will host the ceremony at 9:45 a.m. at the cemetery, 248 Oakland Ave. SE, with Mayor Andre Dickens expected to cut the ribbon.

The public will have access to the first floor of the Bell Tower, where they’ll find an accessible restroom as well as interpretive panels describing the history of the building and cemetery. The second floor of the building, with two porches offering sweeping views of the property and the Atlanta skyline, is available for private event rentals and meetings.

➡️ Read more about the refurbishment here.
