1. High hopes for Prince

🏠  Local land use and zoning expert Jahnee Prince has been tapped to helm Atlanta’s Department of City Planning, sending local urbanists and municipal leaders into a frenzy of anticipation and speculation about her goals for updating the city’s outdated zoning code. 

When she starts at City Hall on Sept. 26, Prince will be charged with rewriting the current zoning code, which was written more than three decades ago.

Initial rewrites by her predecessor, Tim Keane, championed by City Councilmember Amir Farokhi to allow accessory dwelling units on single-family lots, were met with pushback by community NPUs.

A Speech to African Nations

💡 Georgia State's Rialto Center for the Arts' 2022-2023 Rialto Series Season of Power + Spirit is a curated journey dedicated to the power of positive change, and the spirit that unites us through the arts.

🌍 The season opens in the spirit of hope with Traces: A Speech to African Nations.

This one-man theatrical performance, delivered in French with English supertitles, is presented by Burkinabe actor and director Étienne Minoungou, portraying a storyteller returning to his home continent of Africa, with a message of hope.

🧶 The performance is followed by a panel discussion presented by Georgia State University’s Center for Studies on Africa and Its Diaspora (CSAD), on Sat., Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.

2. Hermés and more coming to Phipps

 🛍  Luxury brand Hermés has signed a lease to open a new 7,000 square-foot boutique at Phipps Plaza, moving from its location in Buckhead Village. 

It's one of 15 luxury brands that owner Simon Property Group plans to add to the mall's ground floor tenant roster over the next two years.

While AMIRI, Alexander McQueen, Dior, and Givenchy are known to be opening next year, the others are a secret – for now. For more luxury, the adjacent Nobu Hotel just started accepting bookings for late November.

🗣 Wren's Nest Greeters – The Wren's Nest cultural center seeks volunteers to support our lead docent by greeting and checking in guests before house tours on Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

🚶 Autism Speaks Walk – Volunteers are needed on Oct. 1 from 6:30 a.m. - noon at The Battery to help with the coordination of the annual fundraiser. 

💻 48 in 48 – This global event mobilizes marketing and technology volunteers to help 48 nonprofits by building 48 websites in 48 hours, Oct. 14-16.
