1. Fifty years behind the wheel

🚍 After 50 years as a transit operator, Coy Dumas, Jr. is a familiar face to many Atlanta residents.

“He is on a first-name basis with his customers, and they will tell you he is not just the man who drives the bus, he is a mainstay in their community and part of the family," said MARTA board chair Rita Scott. "Mr. Dumas represents the very best of MARTA, and we celebrate his incredible career.”

Dumas, an Adamsville native, joined MARTA in 1972. Since then, he has safely transported more than 2.8 million passengers in and around the city of Atlanta. He currently drives Route 853 out of West Lake Station on the Blue Line. He also has a spotless driving record.

Dumas said he has no plans to retire just yet. "As long as God graces me, I'm gonna hang in here."

2. Buckhead PATH400 nearly complete

🚲 Construction is underway on the final major stretch of PATH400, a multi-use trail that “runs along the spine of GA 400” in North Atlanta that provides pedestrian and bicycle connectivity to Buckhead neighborhoods and commercial districts.

A groundbreaking ceremony (pictured) was held Nov. 11 on the $12.8 million project to build the new three-quarter mile stretch between Wieuca Road and Loridans Drive.

“PATH400 is part of a growing trail network that can eventually serve as a valuable economic development tool for our city and the region,” Mayor Andre Dickens said in a statement. “Trails like PATH400 help make Atlanta a healthier city, providing accessible and equitable opportunities for exercise and recreation.”

3. Sandy Springs needs Secret Santas

🎅🏻 Solidarity Sandy Springs Secret Santa returns for the holiday season to provide a special Christmas morning to children living in the community.

The generosity of real estate investment firm Jamestown brings Santa’s Workshop by Solidarity to the former Office Depot located at 5934 Roswell Rd. in the Whole Foods Shopping Center. Drop-off weekend will be Dec. 9-11, according to a release.

Families, friends, companies, and other organizations can adopt a family online. Solidarity has collected clothing sizes, and favorite colors, and has asked what items the children would love to wake up to on Christmas morning.

4. Volunteer opportunities

🧥 Head over to Chamblee tomorrow morning to assist St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores sort through and display donated items. The store gives its proceeds directly to charities which help Atlantans, so working with them is a great way to give back. St. Vincent also needs help at its Duluth, Marietta, Lawrenceville, and Commerce locations.

🦃 Support individuals in need this holiday season by helping Ebenezer Baptist Church prepare for its Thanksgiving meal giveaway on Friday morning. Volunteers will unload pallets of food and help set up the feast.

🍪 Join Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta on Saturday for a day of giving back to the Girl Scout community. Volunteers can choose an outdoor shift, which involves beautifying the camp and clearing paths, or an indoor shift, which involves assembling STEM kits for K-12 grade girls.
