Slotin Folk Art Auction's Fall Self-Taught Masterpiece Sale

🏷  The Slotin Folk Art Auction takes place online this weekend, Nov. 12-13. Leaning on 22 years of experience running the annual art show Folk Fest and three decades of auctions, Slotin Folk Art has established relationships that allow for a diverse and complex lineup of artists. This fall sale is an annual tradition that showcases the works of self-taught artists.

Boasting an impressive 856-lot auction, expect to see works by highly sought-after artists such as Bill Traylor, John Orne Johnson (J.O.J.) Frost, Sam Doyle, Howard Finster, Nellie Mae Rowe, Minnie Evans, Sister Gertrude Morgan, Alan Wayne Bradley “Haint”, and many more. This weekend’s blue-chip piece carrying the highest estimate of $50,000-$75,000 is Bill Traylor’s undated “Black Dog” (graphite outline with black paint on cardstock, 13”w x 15”h).

This year’s showcase features selections from the collections of Lynne Browne, the longtime Atlanta arts patron who covered self-taught art for Folk Art Messenger magazine, and Tom Patterson, author of books that include “Howard Finster: Stranger From Another World” and “St. EOM in the Land of Pasaquan.”

For more information, to preview the works, and to register for the auction visit the Slotin Folk Art Auction website.

As Seen in ATL: Dancers perform at Stone Mountain Pow Wow

🦅 Last weekend, the grounds of Stone Mountain were transformed by a dizzying array of whirling feathers, jingling bells, chants, and revelry.

The Native American Festival and Pow Wow offered a two-day celebration of Native American culture and artistry. An inter-tribal drum and dance competition was the star of the show, with viewers crowding around and hoping to catch a glimpse of these colorful and energetic performers.

The event also featured authentic craft demonstrations, a robust artist market, primitive skill lessons, and storytelling.
