October 13 - In today's newsletter, we've got an exclusive on NFA Burger and Grand Champion BBQ's upcoming joint venture, a recipe from Chef Joey Ward, Fresh Harvest turns ten, and much more.

This weather makes us want to sit in a cafe, read the paper, and eat a flaky croissant. What's your favorite croissant? Let us know!

Speaking of hearing from readers, Natalie L. of Buckhead wrote last week to sing the praises of Le Bon Nosh, telling us it's "become my local."

🦪 If you were lucky enough to snag a ticket to Landlocked 6, have fun, the weather looks perfect for this Oyster South benefit that sold out in like five minutes!

NFA Burger x Grand Champion BBQ

🍔 NFA Burger and Grand Champion BBQ are joining forces for a new restaurant.

As reported in
Eater Atlanta on Oct. 7, NFA Burger has filed plans to expand its original gas station location.

Now, the beloved Dunwoody burger joint has announced it is looking towards a new, burgers-and-barbecue concept, opening in late spring, 2023.

While NFA Burger and Grand Champion BBQ each have their own loyal fans and accolades, their respective owners, Billy Kramer and Robert Owens, have quite a bit in common.

Kramer and Owens met about a year ago and bonded over their shared business values, and a goodwill vision for the future of Atlanta’s restaurant scene. When announcing the partnership to his customers via e-mail, Kramer highlighted their “similar approach to quality, customer service, and the desire to elevate others.”

🍖 Side Dish contributor Leah Stephens Economos spoke to Kramer and Owens to get the details.

Punk Food: Jackalope's Thịt Kho and Grits

@jackalopeatl is a pop-up owned by Chef Dave Mouche, a veteran of the restaurant industry and well-versed in Asian cuisine. Like its namesake, Jackalope ATL is an amalgam of different food cultures presented in creative and playful ways.

Chef Mouche’s featured dish is Thịt Kho and Grits, which is traditionally a Vietnamese dish eaten around the Lunar New Year,. At its core, the dish consists of pork belly and hard-boiled eggs braised in a sweet, coconut fish sauce. Mouche specifically uses the Puerto Rican soda Coco Rico for the braising liquid. The high sugar content of the soda provides a necessary sweetness to the dish that is delicious but also requires balance.
