NFA Burger x Grand Champion BBQ


🍔 NFA Burger and Grand Champion BBQ are joining forces for a new restaurant.

As reported in 
Eater Atlanta on Oct. 7, NFA Burger has filed plans to expand its original gas station location. 

Now, the beloved Dunwoody burger joint has announced it is looking towards a new, burgers-and-barbecue concept, opening in late spring, 2023.


While NFA Burger and Grand Champion BBQ each have their own loyal fans and accolades, their respective owners, Billy Kramer and Robert Owens, have quite a bit in common.

Kramer and Owens met about a year ago and bonded over their shared business values, and a goodwill vision for the future of Atlanta’s restaurant scene. When announcing the partnership to his customers via e-mail, Kramer highlighted their “similar approach to quality, customer service, and the desire to elevate others.”

Joey Ward's butternut squash and pumpkin seed agrodolce

Fresh Harvest celebrates 10 years

🥗 This Saturday, Fresh Harvest is celebrating a decade of providing Georgia residents with local, organic groceries.

The delivery service allows residents to have weekly produce sent to their door straight from local farms. On Oct. 15, Wild Heaven Beer is helping Fresh Harvest celebrate its 10th anniversary with a fun celebration.

The event will take place from 6-9 p.m. at Wild Heaven's Avondale location, and costs $50 to attend. The ticket includes unlimited drinks from Wild Heaven, sliders and sides from Piedmont Kitchen Co., goods from Fresh Harvest farmers and artisans, and dessert from Crave Pie, Delava Baklava, and Wildwood Fox Co.

"Join the Fresh Harvest team, our partner farmers, fellow customers, and local food lovers as we celebrate ten years of connecting Atlantans with their food," said Marketing Manager Paula Selville.

Wholesome Wave potluck
 

🍲 Wholesome Wave Georgia is hosting its annual event Southern Chefs Potluck this Sun., Oct. 16 at the Foundry at Puritan Mill. James Beard Award-winning pitmaster Rodney Scott (above) is one of the participating chefs and will cook a whole hog for Southern Chefs Potluck

Wholesome Wave Georgia is an organization that aims to help put healthy foods into the homes of 1.32 million food-insecure families across the state. Proceeds from the potluck dinner will go towards that goal. “Across Georgia, each of us experiences rising food prices caused by inflation," said Executive Director Will Sellers in a press release.

"Georgia’s SNAP recipients feel this pain even more. Southern Chefs Potluck will support our mission to make fresh, healthy, local food affordable to all Georgians."

Beer + Decatur = SUDS

🍻 The Decatur Beer Festival returns from its two-year hiatus this weekend with a new name and a more intimate tasting experience. 

The festival, now known as Simply Us Doing Our Share, or SUDS, will be held Sat., Oct. 15, from noon-4 p.m. at Legacy Park in Decatur. 

“We’re trying to raise the bar — not on the quantity, but on the quality,” said Mike Gallagher of Brick Store Pub, one of the organizers and an original founder of the festival back in 1998.

Punk Food: Jackalope's Thịt Kho and Grits


@jackalopeatl is a pop-up owned by Chef Dave Mouche, a veteran of the restaurant industry and well-versed in Asian cuisine. Like its namesake, Jackalope ATL is an amalgam of different food cultures presented in creative and playful ways. 

Chef Mouche’s featured dish is Thịt Kho and Grits, which is traditionally a Vietnamese dish eaten around the Lunar New Year,. At its core, the dish consists of pork belly and hard-boiled eggs braised in a sweet, coconut fish sauce. Mouche specifically uses the Puerto Rican soda Coco Rico for the braising liquid. The high sugar content of the soda provides a necessary sweetness to the dish that is delicious but also requires balance.
