It was only two years ago that WorldSkills achieved a major milestone in its development – the unanimous adoption of the new WorldSkills Brand. This has helped re-define who we are and what we want to be – the essence or promise of what will be delivered or experienced under “WorldSkills”. This has brought extra purpose and focus to our future development, and a commitment to work in six focus areas to achieve impact towards our mission and vision. These focus areas are Promoting Skills, Career Building, Skills Competitions, Education and Training, International Cooperation and Development, and Research.

Champions Trust training camp in Washington D.C.

For a week in February, the current representatives of the WorldSkills Champions Trust (WSCT) met in Washington D.C. During the intense training camp, the Champions participated in a variety of team building, personal development, and speech coaching exercises hosted in partnership with SkillsUSA. An instant bond was created amongst the WSCT as they focused on creating a two-year plan to bridge the gap between Champions and WorldSkills beyond the Competition, including a programme for the WorldSkills Champions Forum 2016, at Niagara Falls, Canada.

Change how you see disability: 9th International Abilympics

On 25-26 March 2016, over 600 Competitors, representing 35 countries, including 26 countries/regions who are Members of WorldSkills, met in Bordeaux, France, for the 9th International Abilympics. Participants competed in 49 skills in five categories: craft, services, information and communications technology, food, and industry as thousands of spectators watched their training and expertise being tested.

To mark the beginning of 2016, skillsbelgium officially changed its name to WorldSkills Belgium. The announcement was made on 11 January 2016 by the CEO and Belgian Official Delegate, Francis Hourant to 150 Champions, Experts, sponsors and partners, including the Minister of Employment and Training, Eliane Tillieux and the President of WorldSkills Europe, Hubert Romer.

Find a Future Becomes WorldSkills UK

The launch of the selection for the UK’s representation in upcoming national, European and global competitions, coincides with a name change for the organization from Find a Future to WorldSkills UK. As of 1 March 2016 WorldSkills UK will bring together WorldSkills UK Competitions, The Skills Show – the nation’s largest skills and careers event, and the WorldSkills UK Champions programme, which works with former national and international Competitors to create role models for young people across the country.
