WorldSkills is inviting you to celebrate World Youth Skills Day (WYSD) on 15 July 2016!

We are requesting the WorldSkills community join together to celebrate and promote WYSD, demonstrating the reach of our global community. Whether it is hosting your own local event or activities, and sharing our #SkillsRuleTheWorld campaign with your supporters, each of you can help bring global awareness to this important day.

As we released the WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 Final Report and Video, the Secretariat and WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 teams were preparing for our latest planning meetings in Abu Dhabi. The signing of the MoU at the EmiratesSkills National Competition marked 520 days until the Opening Ceremonies of the 44th WorldSkills Competition.

Report released by UNESCO on developing international recognition of qualifications

UNESCO has released a report on the global phenomenon of learning across boundaries called Level-Setting and Recognition of Learning Outcomes: The use of level descriptors in the twenty-first century. WorldSkills was very keen to participate in the research, because it offered opportunities to quality assure and enhance the value of our reforms to standards and assessment.

500 days until Abu Dhabi – Competition Working Group meets in Italy

Technical Delegates from eight Members joined with the Competition Management Team and WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 at the Competitions Working Group. Hosted by WorldSkills Italy from 19-21 May in Bolzano, Italy, the meetings focused on various skill competitions developments for WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017.

Supporting World Bank’s initiative for skills development in Africa

Together with the World Bank, WorldSkills joined the effort to bring opportunities to address the massive need of skills development, specifically in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and training in Sub-Saharan Africa. Three WorldSkills Global Partners – Autodesk, Festo, and Lincoln Electric – participated as speakers on the skills development panel at the African Diaspora Business Dialogue Forum.

WorldSkills Competition coming to Abu Dhabi in 2017

The Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) and WorldSkills International signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in advance of WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. The agreement creates a mutually agreed framework for WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, which will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Emirati teenagers introduced to WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 at EmiratesSkills national competition

For thousands of Emirati teenagers, this year’s EmiratesSkills Competition was also their introduction to WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. The team engaged and entertained visitors to the United Arab Emirates' biggest skills competition with a stand that included a chance to try spray painting, thanks to partners Jotun, and a glimpse into the future of 3-D printing with Edutech and Autodesk.

The 10th WorldSkills Europe General Assembly and Competition Preparation Meetings took place in Gothenburg, Sweden from 18-20 April. More than 170 participants attended the meetings, organized by WorldSkills Europe and the Swedish Organising Committee for EuroSkills 2016.

WorldSkills GCC Dammam 2016, is the 4th regional competition to be held in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). From 26-28 April 2016, Competitors are in Dammam, Saudi Arabia to compete in eight unique skills – Automotive Technology, Electrical Installations, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design Technology, IT Networking Systems Administration, IT Software Solutions for Business, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and Welding.
