One year until WorldSkills Kazan 2019

It’s getting closer to the time to dig out your passport, read up the city guides, and learn a few phrases of Russian and even Tatar. WorldSkills Kazan 2019 is now a year away.

The 45th Competition sees the WorldSkills movement once again head into new and exciting territory.

After WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 took the event to the Middle East for the first time, the next stop is Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan and part of the Russian Federation.

Expectations for the event are high, with the organization for the Competition already advanced. WorldSkills Kazan 2019 will be held at a brand new purpose built venue now nearing completion.

Kazan – where east meets west

On the banks of the might Volga river, Kazan has a history dating back 1,000 years but is modern, vibrant cosmopolitan city that is no stranger to hosting major international events.

Football fans will know Kazan from this year’s World Cup, where it hosted the quarter final between Belgium and Brazil, and France’s narrow defeat of Argentina.

Hosting events like the Universiade Games and the FIFA Confederations Cup has provided the city has extensive experience welcoming international guests to large events.

Building an event venue for the 45th WorldSkills Competition

Competitors and visitors to WorldSkills Kazan 2019 will be among the first to use the new purpose built exhibition centre next to the city’s international airport.

Construction is already well advanced on the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre, which is due to be completed shortly.

With a total area of over 75,000 square metres, it will feature three main exhibition pavilions, and connects directly to the airport along a covered walkway.

For WorldSkills Kazan 2019, around 1,500 Competitors, 1,500 Experts, and 250,000 visitors are expected. The venue’s location puts it within 1,000 kilometres of half of the population of Russia, or over 70 million people.
