Herb Scannell will step down as president, BBC Worldwide North America, and Ann Sarnoff, currently COO, BBC Worldwide North America, has been promoted to the position. Scannell will turn over day-to-day operations to Sarnoff on August 1, but will remain with the company through the summer to aid in the transition.
Since joining the company in 2010, Scannell has seen a 50 percent increase in overall revenue; been crucial in framing cable channel BBC America into what it is today; seen more than four years of consecutive ratings growth; launched compelling original programming, such as Orphan Black; and spearheaded last year’s joint venture between BBC Worldwide and AMC Networks, which resulted in AMCN taking a 49.9 percent stake in BBC AMERICA and co-investing in future BBC productions.
Sarnoff has overseen most major revenue streams for the company since joining in 2010, including ad sales and affiliate sales for BBC America and BBC World News until end of 2014; TV and digital content sales;; and home entertainment and licensing.  She has also led cross-business franchise development for key global brands such as Doctor Who, Top Gear, and BBC Earth, resulting in significant revenue gains. Sarnoff oversaw negotiations around major MVPD deals for BBC America, resulting in an increase in distribution from 68 million subscribers to 80 million; lead the charge on the first Twitter Amplify deal for BBC America; spearheaded the features section strategy; and launched the first-ever conference for, BBC Future: World-Changing Ideas Summit.

Paul Stanley, Epic Rights to Develop Royals & Rebels Brand

Paul Stanley, co-founder and singer/songwriter of KISS, has teamed up with Epic Rights to develop and launch Stanley’s new lifestyle brand, Paul Stanley: Royals & Rebels, at Licensing Expo in Las Vegas next month.
Paul Stanley: Royals & Rebels represents fashion-forward, cutting-edge style and an independent spirit. Epic Rights will build the Paul Stanley: Royals & Rebels brand into a
new licensing program, including men’s fashion apparel and accessories, footwear, food, spirits, home décor, cookware, and more. Epic Rights anticipates debuting the Paul Stanley: Royals & Rebels brand at retailers next fall.

Sago Sago Launches Consumer Products Division

Sago Sago, a developer of apps for toddlers, is launching a new consumer products division. The division will be led by Samson Lee, head of consumer products; and Stephanie Lemonie, design director. The move comes after the successful test run of plush toys produced by Sago Sago last year as a pilot project in partnership with Monster Factory. 

Care Bears Continues Digital Expansion

Building on its digital presence, American Greetings Properties (AGP) has announced that it will continue its expansion of the current Care Bears digital presence with the release of six new Care Bears mobile apps this year, in categories that span entertainment, books, interactive storybook, comic books, and games.
Beginning in June, partner Lion Forge will launch a series of interactive comic books on all platforms, which will complement physical goods available at specialty retailers in 2016. In July, a new partnership with Bare Tree Media will be making its debut with Care Bears emoticons, stickers, and themes launched within messenger apps such as BAND, Blackberry Messenger, and Viber. A continued partnership with Iconicfuture will also bring new Care Bears home screen themes to Apple and Android users via CocoPPa and CocoPPa Launcher.
In August, the Care Bears’ first appisode, titled “Care Bear-a-Thon,” will roll-out with partner, Plumzi. In October, Plumzi will push its second appisode for Care Bears, titled “In a Flash.” Both appisodes will be available on multiple platforms and will be localized in key markets.
This fall, partner PlayDate Digital will begin releasing Care Bears digital storybooks. The first, “Sleepytime: Rise and Shine” will include three brand new Care Bears-inspired songs.

Warner Bros., DC Entertainment Launch New Global Kids’ Websites

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) and DC Entertainment have launched,, and—three new entertainment destinations for kids that will engage fans with their favorite Warner Bros. characters and DC Comics superheroes in an immersive experience featuring original new content.

With key interactive features designed to offer content to kids from Internet-connected devices,,, and allow kids to experience immersive worlds and connect with Warner Bros.’ franchise animation characters and the universe of DC Comics.

Developed for kids aged 4 to 11, the sites feature original content, videos, downloadable activities, games, quizzes, and contests. Additionally, an international market rollout in Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Spain, and the UK is planned for the coming months.

Nelvana Adds Licensees for Little Charmers

Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana has added five softlines licensees to its growing roster of Little Charmers partners. The Bentex Group, with its Extreme Concepts, Dreamwave, and H.I.S. International divisions, has signed as the master apparel licensee; SG Companies for footwear; Franco Manufacturing for juvenile bed and bath; and Fantasia Accessories Ltd. for jewelry, hair accessories, headwear, hand wear, and rainwear.

Production and master toy partner Spin Master will launch its Little Charmers toy collection this fall. The full line includes mini figurines, plush, dolls, and role-play items for kids age 2 to 5.

Previously announced licensees include Scholastic, Rubie’s Costume Co., Baby Boom Consumer Products, and Bakery Crafts.

Customizable Minions Collection Available at Build-A-Bear

Build-A-Bear will produce a line of exclusive, make-your-own plush based on Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions, in theaters July 10. The collection will feature Minions Kevin, Stuart, and Bob and will be added to Build-A-Bear’s summer season lineup, available in stores nationwide.

The Build-A-Bear Minions collection is available online and in-store at Build-A-Bear Workshops. It includes a variety of costume options, including the Minions’ signature denim overalls and rubber boots, along with three era costumes as featured in the film. As guests make their new plush friends, they can choose from a selection of pre-recorded sounds based on each character’s own sayings, or add their own personal message on a Build-A-Sound recordable chip.

Evolution Appointed Licensing and Merchandising Agent for YO-KAI Watch, LBX

Dentsu Entertainment USA Inc. and Level-5 Inc. have appointed Evolution USA LLC to bring franchises YO-KAI Watch and Little Battlers eXperience (LBX) to the U.S. and Canadian markets. Evolution will premiere the YO-KAI Watch property to key licensees and retailers at the upcoming Licensing Expo in Las Vegas and will be licensing and managing the franchises as the full-service licensing and promotions agency, with products and retail promotions premiering on store shelves beginning next fall.
Hasbro has been previously announced as the YO-KAI Watch master toy licensee for the U.S., Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, and Central and South America, and will introduce a line of toys for the franchise beginning next spring. VIZ Media LLC has been granted the publishing rights for Manga under the Perfect Square imprint. Nintendo of America will launch a North American version of the Nintendo 3DS handheld game this year.

Aardman Sign New U.S. Licensing Agent for Shaun the Sheep

With the Shaun the Sheep movie premiering around the world, and the U.S. Lionsgate release set for the August 7, Aardman has signed JLK Brand Licensing Group as its new agent for the U.S. The partnership covers both Shaun the Sheep and Wallace & Gromit properties and will be aimed at building a long-term licensing and merchandising program for the U.S. market.
The global Shaun the Sheep licensing program boasts more than 180 licensees across 25 territories. Following the movie, a half-hour special, “The Farmers Llamas,” will air from December 2015 worldwide. Aardman is also producing 20 new 10-minute episodes for next year, taking the total number to 150.

Enesco Signs Licensing Agreement with Designs by Lolita

Enesco has signed a licensing agreement to be the worldwide manufacturer and wholesale distributor for Designs by Lolita glassware. Lolita produces hand-painted wine glasses, pilsners, and other glassware.
Beginning July 1, Enesco will offer Lolita products to retailers worldwide, with the exception of Europe, with orders beginning in January.

Zenescope, Phicen Partner for Grimm Action Figures

Zenescope Entertainment’s Grimm Fairy Tales (GFT) has more than 200 characters and encompasses spin-off series such as Van Helsing, Wonderland, Neverland, Inferno, OZ, and Robyn Hood.

Through Zenescope’s partnership with Phicen Ltd., GFT’s fans will be able bring home collectible versions of their favorite characters. Each 1:6-scale figure will be made with Phicen’s seamless body and stainless steel skeleton and will be hand-crafted in the character’s signature outfit, as well as packaged with an armament of its signature weapons. Each piece will be produced by Executive Replicas, marking the first releases in the collaboration between the three companies.
The first action figure, Liesel Van Helsing (shown here), will release in July.

Idlewild & SoakZone Introduces Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Trolley Ride

Idlewild & SoakZone will open for its 138th season on May 22. The park continues its relationship with The Fred Rogers Co. with the debut of the new Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood ride this summer. Guests will board the iconic Neighborhood trolley and travel through the Neighborhood of Make-Believe to meet Daniel Tiger, the main character from the animated preschool series Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and his friends and family. The trolley runs along the same track that ushered park guests through the former Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood of Make-Believe ride, which operated at the park from 1989 through 2013. 
In conjunction with the new ride, Daniel Tiger and his friend Katerina Kittykat will star in a musical stage show, “Daniel’s Grr-ific Day.” After the show, kids will have the opportunity to meet and greet Daniel, Katerina, and their friend, O the Owl! “Daniel Tiger’s Neighbor Days,” a new event featuring other characters from the TV program, is also being planned for August.

Masha and the Bear Set for the U.S.

Animaccord Animation Studios, producers and owners of the Masha and The Bear will exhibit at Licensing Expo in Las Vegas next month. On show this year will be Animaccord’s international licensing program, as well as a number of number of new deals, to be announced.
Having become a Kidscreen award-winner for Best Animation 2015, the licensing team headed by Vladimir Gorbulya will continue to expand Masha’s potential across the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.


Cosmopolitan to Launch Cosmopolitan The Fragrance

Cosmopolitan is launching Cosmopolitan The Fragrance.
In a deal brokered by IMG, Cosmopolitan The Fragrance will be distributed by Jigsaw ESL. Making its debut in the UK on 7th September, the fragrance will be available exclusively in 350 Boots stores across the country and online at
Following the UK launch, Cosmopolitan The Fragrance will be rolled out to several other markets, including Germany and Australia in 2015.
For the consumer launch of the fragrance, Cosmopolitan is searching for three ‘fun, fearless females’ to become the face of the campaign. The three lucky winners will be chosen by an expert judging panel in the summer and will go on to star in the advertising and marketing campaign for the fragrance, as well as appearing in the October issue of the magazine in the UK.
“This launch is a first for a women’s magazine and is a natural step as we expand the power of the Cosmopolitan brand,” said Greg Witham, Group Publishing Director, Cosmopolitan. “We’re seeing strong growth to Cosmopolitan’s digital audience, and we know that women want to engage with Cosmo in a variety of ways. Our readers are fanatical about fragrance and spent £71 million on perfume in the UK alone last year. This allows them a way to experience the brand in a new and relevant way.”

Egmont Launches Mind Candy’s World of Warriors in Allabout Magazine

Egmont Publishing has announced the launch of Mind Candy’s World of Warriors in ‘Allabout’ Magazine.
World of Warriors magazine is aimed at 6-10 year old boys and the issue comes with a bow and arrow set, official Warriors trading cards PLUS it's packed with puzzles, posters and an exclusive six-page comic.
Siobhan Galvin, Publishing Director, said: “We are very excited to be working with Mind Candy on the launch of World of Warriors magazine.  The sheer depth of the world as well as the wealth of characters offers limitless potential to build and develop their stories. Chloe’s Closet Appoints Metrostar as exclusive UK licensing agent

US producer Splash Entertainment has announced that it has chosen Metrostar to develop and manage the licensing programme for its TV animation, Chloe’s Closet in the UK and Ireland. The series has been transmitted on Channel 5’s Milkshake strand at weekends since 2013, along with daily runs on Cartoonito since 2011.
Chloe’s Closet is produced by the Emmy and BAFTA winning producer Splash Entertainment and follows Chloe and her friends as they dress up in costumes from her magic closet, which transports them on wonderful adventures into new worlds. It is a global series aimed primarily at pre-school girls, and licensing is already established in Spain, France, Benelux, Greece and Germany.
Chloe’s Closet comprises two series and 104 x 13 minute episodes in total.  Splash Entertainment has just commissioned a third series of 26 episodes for transmission in 2016
Metrostar, which also manages the UK licensing for pre-school boys property, Toot the Tiny Tugboat, also on Milkshake, will work with Splash and many of ‘Chloe’s’ licensing partners worldwide to launch her into the UK as well as introducing her to UK licensees and retailers. 
“Chloe’s Closet captures the imaginative ‘roll-play/dress up’ play-pattern of its audience. The show encourages little ones to explore their imaginations while learning important lessons along the way,” says David Di Lorenzo, VP of Licensing & Digital Distribution, at Splash Entertainment. He added, “Chloe’s Closet is well-established in other EU markets and the Milkshake platform is very strong.  We are confident of merchandise success in the UK market.”

We are delighted to be bringing Chloe’s Closet licensing to the UK market - she’s going to be a very strong contender in pre-school girls licensing in the years to come.”

World Record Set by Igglepiggle

DHX Brands, the consumer-products and brand-management arm of DHX Media, set a new Guinness World Records title as In the Night Garden’s Igglepiggle, known by millions of children for his little red comfort blanket in the hit CBeebies’ series, unfurled the largest-ever polar fleece blanket.
The record-breaking attempt was organised to celebrate the first anniversary of the In the Night Garden ride at CBeebies Land, Alton Towers Resort.
Made by Dreamtex Ltd, which manufactures the In the Night Garden Home Textile Collection, the record-setting blanket measures in at 98.8m sq. A Guinness World Records adjudicator verified the new Guinness World Records title, presenting Igglepiggle with an official certificate to mark the achievement.
A special party to celebrate the anniversary of the ride will also be held at the resort later in the day, attended by families and familiar characters from the show.

Sonic Boom on Boomerang

Sega Europe has announced the launch of Sonic Boom, the first ever CG animated cartoon series for the brand co-produced by Sega of America Inc. and OuiDO! Productions.
The series will come to screens in the UK this summer on Boomerang. The CG animated cartoon has already seen a successful launch in the US on Cartoon Network, and has been proving a big hit on Gulli and Canal J in France.
Sean Gorman, Director of Kids’ Channels UK, Turner Broadcasting, says: “We are thrilled to be working with SEGA Europe to launch Sonic Boom on Boomerang this June. Boomerang offers kids an exciting mix of family favourites and beloved classic cartoons, from Scooby Doo to The Tom and Jerry Show and Looney Tunes. We think Sonic Boom is the perfect fit and we can’t wait to add the show to our exciting comedy and adventure line-up.”

Gemma International to Launch tokidoki range for UK

In a deal brokered by London based licensing agency Bloom, Gemma International will be launching a range of greeting cards and wrap for tokidoki in the UK.
tokidoki, the pop culture brand meaning “sometimes” in Japanese, has built a strong following with its larger-than-life characters and designs as showcased on its products which include apparel, handbags, cosmetics, accessories and collectible toys.
Gemma will be launching a range of cards and wrap to tap into fashion conscious teen girls, launching into high street retailers next year.


BOTI to Manufacture Miffy Toys

BOTI Global Ltd., a Hong Kong based multi-category toy company has announced it has acquired a global license to manufacture toys for the pre-school property Miffy.
2015 marks Miffy’s 60th birthday and a year of celebration, culminating in the launch of the brand new â€˜Miffy’s Adventures, Big and Small’ HD CGI animation series.
BOTI will be launching a range of featured TV related plush in October 2015 and a full line-up of figures and playsets in Spring of 2016, based on the new animation series.
"We are thrilled to partner with Mercis to launch the Miffy toy line and bring to life the adorable Miffy characters and world of Dick Bruna," said Nico Blauw, CEO at BOTI Global.
