About US Sailing's Reach Program
US Sailing’s REACH Program utilizes sailing as an educational platform, challenging youth to embrace education, establish a love of learning and explore productive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) based careers. Combining educators, sailing instructors, engineers, scientists with today’s youth to provide them with a one of a kind authentic learning experience, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a cooperative work environment.

A Note from Program Manager Jessica Servis
Fall sailing is quickly approaching. If you are running REACH as an after school program this fall pack the sailing in first and the inside activities towards the the end when the weather gets cooler. Now is also a good time to try a few one day REACH Camps from 10-4 on Saturdays. Start by implementing one module a day on Saturdays for 4 weeks. This a great way to generate revenue and get your instructors excited about REACH. You can even contact local youth programs to come and participate in Module 1.

Are you implementing REACH at your yacht club or sailing center, let us know. Please email Jessica so we can add you to our list of programs on the REACH website. We can also provide you with any updates in curriculum or implementation ideas and project partners. Keep up the great work!

Piers Park adds REACH to US Sailing's Red Book
Instructors at Piers Park Sailing Center in Boston Harbor add the Science of Sailing to their sailors little red books. The students receive a stamp when they have completed the corresponding REACH module or activity. Once students have collected all six stamps they receive a certificate. What a great way to incorporate REACH in your summer sailing program.

Thank You
Students around the country are participated in REACH this summer at their local sailing center. Below  is a thank you gift created by high school students from The MET after participating in US Sailing's REACH program at Community Boating Center (CBC) in Providence, Rhode Island.

CBC provided instruction utilizing the REACH Educator Guide to 9th and 10th grade students. Students were able to learn about sailing and its logical educational extensions in a hands-on, experiential, waterfront classroom setting and on-board  Hunter 216 sailboats. Students were able to directly apply theoretical lessons to daily sailing adventures to make each lesson a memorable real life learning experience. Nice work CBC!
