DICK WILLIAMS UPDATE

Below is a message from Pat Williams (Dick Williams' wife) regarding Dick's medical condition.  As many of you know, Dick is a retired WEGroup partner, and he worked there for many years.

As some of you know, and many may not, Dick had a major hemorrhagic stroke (a brain bleed) on Jan 29th. He was in ICU for 5 days, on the Neurology floor for a week, and now is in the Oregon Rehab Center at Sacred Heart University hospital. He will be moving into a residential rehabilitation home this next week for 24/7 care for the next part of his healing journey. His dementia was mild before the stroke but now the brain damage from the brain bleed has exacerbated it. While his physical abilities (speech, walking, stairs, eating, socializing, and strength) have not been seriously affected, his cognitive abilities are now more impaired.

AIA-SWO MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

1.  FELLOWS <--> EMERGING PROFESSIONALS

The AIA-SWO Fellows are interested in supporting our emerging members through an informal monitorship program (modeled after the Texas Society of Architects' successful Fellows Connect program).  This may result in one-on-one lunches or dinners, happy hour get-togethers, or even site visits.  If you are interested in participating as either a mentor or mentee, please email Andrew Scheidt (andrewlscheidt@gmail.com) and indicate your area of interests and/or expertise to help us better match colleagues.

2.  EMERGING PROFESSIONALS <--> STUDENTS

The University of Oregon Chapter of the AIAS student group is interested in collaborating with AIA-SWO to pair emerging professionals with students in an informal mentoring program.  This is intended to be loosely structured, to promote a setting that facilitates casual discourse focused on the transition from school to the professional world.  If you are interested in participating as a peer-mentor, please email a sentence or two about yourself to AIAS President James Chrisman (jamesschrisman@gmail.com) with a sentence or two about yourself.

AIA-SWO VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP

Volunteer Sign-up is still open!  Positions are first-come/first-serve, so sign up now to get your top choice!

As we have mentioned in previous announcements, the Volunteer Dues Discount has been replaced by a new Volunteer Incentive program. To appease AIA-National, we have simplified the renewal process and eliminated the dues reduction for volunteering.  For 2016, volunteers will receive 3 vouchers for regular chapter programs that they can use for themselves or for guests. (This represents up to a $75 value for 3 non-member tickets). It is our hope that this revised program will continue to reward volunteers, alleviate the logistical and financial burden of our current system, and encourage attendance at chapter programs.

To choose your volunteer role, click on the button below to jump to the online sign-up form through Volunteer Spot.  The website will ask for your email address to get started, but you don’t have to create a profile or provide any additional information other than your name.

We have a lot of big goals and exciting events planned for 2016, so sign up today and let’s get the ball rolling!
