MICHAEL FIFIELD, FAIA WINS FULBRIGHT TO STUDY SUSTAINABLE HOUSING & PLANNING IN PORTUGAL

Housing design needs in Oregon and Portugal share surprising similarities. The Fulbright Commission has offered Fifield a Fulbright Scholar Research Award to spend three months in Portugal documenting housing projects and helping to develop principles for more affordable, sustainable community design in both Portugal and the US.  READ MORE.

“Electronic Access Control Impacts on LEED and Sustainability”
 Presented by Karen Davis of Assa Abloy
 
Course Objectives Include:
 
-Understand the life cycle impacts of building entry systems.
-Understand energy consumption of typical electronic access control systems and how to use life cycle thinking to optimize these systems.
-Describe how electronic access control (EAC) can help building owners gain Energy & Atmosphere (EA), Materials & Resources (MR), and Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) credits in LEED v3 and v4.
 
Additional Notes:
One AIA learning unit (HSW) continuing education unit.

He is a national leader in architecture, design, and urban planning—specifically in the creation of livable, sustainable communities and buildings that reinforce them.

The Illuminating Engineering Society, Oregon Section, in collaboration with the UO Dept. of Architecture, is offering an Advanced Sustainable Lighting Design education seminar and workshops.

  • UO Arch or Iarc students who have completed or are currently enrolled in Arch 591/592

Chuck Bailey's coast home in Yachats was featured in a recent blog post by Milgard Windows and Doors. The post examines how the house was designed to be built with a combination of recycled materials and products that could withstand the harsh coastal environment.
