This year at Jazz at Newport, jazz students and community musicians will have two unparalleled opportunities to participate directly in jazz clinics. Two workshops have been scheduled during the festival, one with drummer Jeff Hamilton at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at Newport High School and one with pianist and educator Tamir Hendelman at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Newport Performing Arts Center.
All applicants will be given a focus to consider. The artist will then work with the participants as a group in learning the techniques involved. The participant fee for each clinic is $15 per adult, $10 per student. Scholarships are available.

Applications are available at the center, by calling 541-265-2787, or you can download a form at our website.

"This year's artists will be performing jazz in all its forms: blues, Latin jazz, bebop, chamber jazz and classics from the Great American Songbook,” noted Music Director (and renowned jazz flutist) Holly Hofmann. “No matter what kind of jazz you like the best, you'll find it at this year's festival, from an exquisite guitar and clarinet duo, to a Caribbean jazz trio and a classic sax/trumpet quintet.”
