We couldn't even attempt to present such a great event without the support of our sponsors
and volunteers. We appreciate our festival sponsor, Rev. Carol Stubbs Smith, and the annual commitment of the City of Newport, the Newport News-Times, and the Jazz Hotels
, who provide lodging for the musicians.
Special thanks go to the 2011 Jazz Club, made up of dedicated jazz fans who agree to multi-year, sustaining support.

Jazz at Newport is here!
Exciting, isn't it? Three days of world-class jazz starts Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday, right here in Newport!
The festival's focus has always been to present world-class jazz in a beautiful coastal setting – and this year is no different: Music Director Holly Hofmann has put together a roster of such jazz lights as Monty Alexander, Hassan Shakur, Anat Cohen, Howard Alden, Jeff Hamilton Trio, Kristin Korb, Lewis Nash, Weber Iago, Terell Stafford, and Mike Wofford, to name just a few. David Captein, Tamir Hendelman, Mike Horsfall, Christoph Luty, the Weber Iago/David Valdez Chamber Jazz Project and Portland's PDX Jazz Quintet round out the roster.
"This year's artists will be performing jazz in all its forms: blues, Latin jazz, bebop, chamber jazz and classics from the Great American Songbook,” noted Music Director (and renowned jazz flutist) Holly Hofmann
. “No matter what kind of jazz you like the best, you'll find it at this year's festival, from an exquisite guitar and clarinet duo, to a Caribbean jazz trio and a classic sax/trumpet quintet.”
Eight sets occurring over three days showcase the extraordinary versatility of these musicians. The festival's "Opening Night" Set 1 powerhouse on Friday, Set 5's "Super Saturday Night" and Set. 8's "The Wrap Session" on Sunday give many opportunities to see various combinations of world-class jazz musicians. An all-artist jam session, at the end of Set 8, brings the festival to a rousing close.
See innovative combinations for the rest of the sets during the festival as well: "Jazz Three Ways" presents solo, duo and trio performances in Set 3 on Saturday; Set 4's "Happy Hour" features the PDX Jazz Quintet, followed by a "Meet the Artists" and CD-signing on Saturday; and Hofmann herself performs with Mike Wofford in Set 7's "Sunday Morning Jazz Message" on Sunday.
Late-night jazz nightcap sets are also in the cards for Friday and Saturday nights on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the Shilo Inn Suites Hotel. On Friday, guitarist Howard Alden plays with Terell Stafford on trumpet, Kristin Korb on bass and vocals, and Lewis Nash on drums; on Saturday, Alden, Nash and Korb are joined by NYC's Anat Cohen on clarinet and tenor sax, and local favorite Mike Horsfall (of Tall Jazz fame) on vibes.
