Interfaith Service Day
Sunday August 7, 2022
beginning on the New Haven Green

Serve. Pray. Heal.
Dear Friends,
Do you ever wonder about that man standing alone in front of the tank at Tiananmen square?  Did he do any good?  Was it worth it?  Is he alive today? Are you afraid of being that man?  As much as he inspires me, I don’t want to stand alone in front of a tank.
And when you think of war, do you think of a global event or a local event?  Do you think of famine or soup kitchens?  Do you think of armies or of fair housing? Do think of mass immigration or clean water and conservation?  Do you think of spiritual zealots or spiritual freedom?
Interfaith Service Day is a local act of peacemaking. It is the beginning of many small acts of peacemaking, where we engage one another in service, prayer, and healing.  We are not one person alone,  but many holding hands.  So on Sunday morning, 8:30 a.m. on August 7th,  you will meet peacemakers, not standing in front of a tank, but feeding the hungry side by side with nineteen visiting youth from Israel and the United States.  You will clean a beach, paint a mural, restore a cemetery, and build affordable housing. These simple acts are the foundations of peace.
We are not a man in front of a tank.  We are Jews, Christians, Muslims, B’hai, atheists and agnostics too, and others, and we are strong and growing stronger.  Won’t you join us?  And bring your children too and help us paint this giant 48 foot peace mural:
Sign up early for a Habitat for Humanity build (I need ten dedicated workers), or walk the beach with Save the Sound and keep our waters healthy for everyone.  Make sandwiches for the hungry, or respect the departed by restoring a Jewish Cemetery,  or help us ready some affordable housing units for families eager for a safe clean affordable place to live.  We will have buses ready to bring you to your project and we have live music, pizza and salad and more.
Come to the New Haven Green, Sunday August 7th, 8:30 A.M. which will be your spiritual worship for that day.
