Join Our Sea Turtle In-Water Survey!
From January 23rd, we are beginning this year's in-water snorkel surveys and you can join us! If you are a strong snorkeller you can come along on Monday, Wednesday or Friday, just send an email to sue@bonaireturtles.org. Tickets cost just $80 for the day with all proceeds helping to fund our research work.
Welcome To Our New Intern!
We would like to introduce you to our new intern: Karen. Karen is an Applied Biology student and will be graduating from HAS Hogeschool of Applied Sciences in 2018. After studying the behaviour of big cats at a local zoo in the Netherlands, Karen decided to follow her love for marine life and to work with STCB to deepen her knowledge of Bonaire's most iconic wildlife: sea turtles. We're sad to say goodbye to Coralie, who is an absolute star(!), but we're also very excited to work with Karen!
Turtle Workshops
It has been a great couple of months for sea turtle education! In December, STCB organised a Turtle Week: together with the Mediabus, we provided a series of free presentations and creative workshops for more than 150 school children! This event was followed by a Turtle Day in January, when children between the ages of 3 and 11 came to the STCB office to learn more about Bonaire's endangered turtles. After the presentation, the youngsters custom painted wooden turtles and played a game of tic-tac-toe with 3D-printed turtles!
Adopt-A-Nest: First 22 Nests Adopted!

This year, Adopt-A-Nest is going global! Companies and individuals from Bonaire, but also from the Netherlands, the United States and Switzerland have already adopted 22 sea turtle nests! Real estate agencies, resorts and hotels, and a financial institution, amongst others, have already demonstrated their commitment to Bonaire’s endangered sea turtles by joining Adopt-A-Nest 2017.

We will continue to use the Nestometer for Adopt-A-Nest 2017! The Nestometer is displayed outside the STCB office (Kaya Korona #53) to promote the companies that join our Adopt-A-Nest program. Through press, word of mouth and social media, the participants will also achieve increased visibility and awareness – all of it demonstrating the companies' commitment to protecting Bonaire’s endangered sea turtles.

If you too would like to contribute towards keeping Bonaire's turtles safe, just send us an email or give us a call (+599 717 2225)!
Trees Planted At Te Amo Beach

To start the year off right, we continued our conservation efforts at Te Amo Beach by planting 50 green buttonwood trees along the inner side of the new fence. The trees will form a natural barrier, that will be effective at reducing light pollution from the airport, thereby helping to prevent the disorientation of nesting turtles and hatchlings at Te Amo Beach. Besides helping nesting turtles, the trees will also maintain the precious beach by binding the sand, and hence preventing the sand from blowing away. Hence, a win-win for all!

Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire worked together with openbaar lichaam Bonaire and WILDCONSCIENCE BV to accomplish these works. In addition, we would like to thank Green Label Landscaping N.V. for sponsoring part of the tree planting and also the watering of the plants during their first month to ensure that the buttonwood grow successfully.
Cactus Blue Food Truck
We would like to thank Cactus Blue Bonaire for becoming our newest vendor! The Cactus Blue Food Truck, known for its awesome (lionfish) burgers and filled wraps, is located at Donkey Beach and open from Monday to Friday between 11AM and 3PM. Cactus Blue will be selling STCB's unique necklaces, which are carved from natural materials. Why not stop by for lunch and check out our merchandise?!
