Industry Spotlight: Tristan Taormino
In honor of Tristan Taormino's visit to Portland at the beginning of June, we thought we'd find out just how she became such a world-renowned sex educator, author, and feminist pornographer.
Turns out, Taormino thought she wanted to be a lawyer. But she faced numerous law school application rejections, and her advisor pulled her aside to tell her, "I don't think you want to go to law school. I think you want to write about sex. And I think you're really good at it."
Find out how Taormino took that advice and ran with it, churning out books, DVDs, lectures and advice about sex to the masses, in our blog post
'Sup on the blog?
This month on our blog, we posted about Autostraddle's Queer Girl City Guide to Portland
, an in-depth guide that lists all kinds of queer-friendly restaurants, bars, coffee shops, strip clubs, hair salons, and tattoo shops in PDX, as well as events — such as queer dance nights, Pride, and a plethora of other rad LGBTQ functions. To our delight, North Portland is listed as a "Gayborhood," and we're mentioned as Portland's local, female-owned sex toy shop. Check it out
Both Ontario and Argentina have recently taken some big leaps forward for trans rights, allowing for gender self-determination on birth certificates without proof of medical, judicial, or psychiatric procedures first. Read about the decisions and laws that are making this happen
We received some wonderful — and hilarious — stories about your travels with sex toys on our recent guide to traveling with sex toys
! It was really hard to choose just one favorite, but we decided the winner of the Appetite travel bag
was Megan, with her amusing story about a large dildo that garnered the nickname "Hillshire." Read the rest of our favorite travel stories here
