The future of energy cooperation in the Mediterranean was highlighted during the conference "MEDREG’s support to energy regulatory reforms in the Southern Mediterranean," which took place on 19 September 2019 in Brussels. During this one day event, MEDREG shared some of the successes achieved in the last two years, through the voice and testimonies of six regulatory members. The day was attended by a diverse group of experts in the energy sector, journalists, the private sector, utilities and European institutions, all sharing a common interest in advancing a joint energy future of the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Palestine’s energy transformation

Energy scarcity is felt most keenly by rural women who bear the double burden of domestic and agricultural work.

In response, Friends of the Earth Palestine/Palestinian Environmental NGOs Network (PENGON) began implementing renewable energy projects to build the capacity of local people, especially women, to manage their own clean energy sources.

Since 2003, these projects have provided households, small farms, businesses and non-profit institutions like schools with reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity for their basic needs - such as lights, machinery and water pumps.

Through training and advocacy, they put power back into the hands of Palestinian women, like Majida and Rasmeya. This is their story of People Power in action.

Budapest Water Summit 2019

The far-reaching challenges of global warming are inseparable from water. As a result increasingly severe weather and heavy environmental pollution of surface and underground waters, makes the Earth’s water economy more fragile every day.

The 2019 Budapest Water Summit will take place 15-17 October and offers an international meeting point for those who see and understand the looming trouble, and who, in addition to making committed declarations, would also build bridges of partnership in sustainable solutions.
