The weekly challenges are posted online, but there are plans to have an in-person show featuring all the artist’s interpretations of the challenges. Check the plein air schedule and the three great outdoor classes with Bill Lane, Thea Ernest and Joel Popadics. Lots of opportunities for artists to get  outside  and learn new skills. Bristol and Warren Waterfront and Town

Tuition: $125 Members, $155 non-Members

Join us for a plein air painting class with a twist! Sometimes weather, bugs, changing light or bored companions may limit the time you have to capture a scene. This class will help you find ways to work quickly with great results. We’ll focus on finding your interest in a scene and visually editing to help you work efficiently. There will be both natural and architectural or marine elements in our locations to suit all interests. Suitable for watercolor, gouache, pen and pencils.

Thea Ernest arrived in Rhode Island in 1983 ready to surrender to art at Rhode Island School of Design. After receiving her BFA in Jewelry and Light Metals in 1987, she created custom cabinet hardware and decorative metalwork both for private homes and historic properties. (If you visit the Isaac Bell House in Newport, you will see her reproductions of original lamps and decorative work on the main floor). Her artistic pursuits during these years included found object metal sculpture and whimsical wire sculptures. In the past several years, Thea has gravitated toward the immediacy, color and portability of plein air watercolor. Throughout the year, no matter what the weather, you may see Thea in her AutoStudio – a 2010 Honda Fit – or outdoors capturing scenes across RI. Thea has taught and presented workshops at What Cheer Flower Farm, East Bay Bikeway Art Day, Providence Art Club and the Seekonk, Rehoboth and Washington Park Public Libraries. Her commissioned home portraits grace walls in several states.

You can see Thea’s work online on Instagram @theaernestdesign or at her website
