Christmas Connections

Christmas provides the unique opportunity for Christians to become the "hands and feet of Jesus" to a world in desperate need of His hope, His help, and especially His love. In the January Chesapeake Connection, the editors of the district newsletter would like to highlight the many incarnational ministries taking place within our communities during the holiday season. Pastors and church leaders, share your story in a few sentences and send with  pictures to Debbie Hoover at debbie.hoover@chesapeakewesleyan.com

Getting to Know Our District Pastors

Pastor Doug & Karen Morley

Doug Morley has just completed his eighteenth year as pastor of Bethel Wesleyan Church in Goldsboro, Maryland. Under his watch, God has blessed this congregation with incremental growth, having an average of 34 in attendance in 1997 to a current attendance average of 89. It was while pastoring in the Chesapeake District that Doug met and married his wife, Karen (Holland) in 2002. God has blessed them with two boys, Ryan (2004) and Drew (2007).

Doug earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan University (formerly Bartlesville Wesleyan College) in 1988 and a Masters of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1995 at which time he moved to the Chesapeake District. Prior to pastoring Bethel Wesleyan, Doug served as Youth Pastor in Belleville, Kansas and as Youth/Young Adult Pastor of the Chesapeake “Cluster” Churches, which included Cedar Grove, Denton First, Goldsboro Bethel, Greensboro New Life, and Ridgely Immanuel. He also taught Bible at the Wesleyan Christian School in Denton.

Doug enjoys spending time with his family, watching his sons play soccer, taking and posting pictures, working in the yard and around the house, taking walks with his dogs, and going to the beach.  He is especially grateful for his Christian heritage, God’s tug upon his heart at an early age, his call into full-time Christians service as a teen at youth camp, the many opportunities God has given him to share the love of Jesus with both young and old alike, and the privilege of being Karen’s husband and the dad of Ryan and Drew!

Doctor of Ministry in Transformational Leadership

Wesley Seminary at Indiana Wesleyan University will be launching an innovative Doctor of Ministry (DMIN) in Transformational Leadership.  Students in the program will learn from international speakers from around the world. The program will allow working ministers to earn a leadership doctorate while maintaining their pastoral positions. The four-year program will include online classes as well as two weeks of intensive study each June, offering students the opportunity to meet world-changing leaders in Atlanta, San Diego, and Oxford, England. To find out more about the design of the program, visit indwes.edu/dmin.

GROWTH POINTS with Gary McIntosh

Why do most churches struggle in finding leaders? Could it be because most churches have no strategy for recruiting and developing new leaders? In the November 2015 issue of Growth Points, Dr. Gary McIntosh offers helpful insights to leadership development within the local church. Click here to download your  copy today.

DBMD Establishes April 1 as Annual Deadline for All Required Submissions

The Chesapeake District Board of Ministerial Development (DBMD) has established April 1 of each district year as the annual deadline for all submissions to the board for evaluation and recommendation. This deadline includes annual service reports, recommendations for new ministerial students, and requests for ordination. Candidates for ordination not able to complete the required classwork and receive certification for ordination by the Division of Education and Clergy Development by the April 1 deadline will be considered by the DBMD in a subsequent year. Recommendations for new ministerial students and district licensing may be submitted any time following April 1 for consideration during the next fiscal year.

Protect My Ministry is Now Available for Background Checks at Minimal Cost
