Bottom Dollars Film Screening

Did you know that it is legal for some companies in the U.S. to pay disabled workers less than minimum wage? Imagine working two 40-hr weeks and getting a $15 check. Bottom Dollars is a documentary that brings awareness to sub-minimum wages for people with disabilities. Join the Health Law, Policy and Ethics Project and the Civil Rights Law Practice Society in raising awareness for disabled workers' rights. The first hour will be the film screening and the second hour will focus on a reflective discussion.

LALSA - GHBA Veterans Day Ceremony

LALSA, in collaboration with the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association (GHBA), will be hosting a Veteran's Day Celebration to honor all veterans in the Atlanta community. LALSA Moot Court Try Outs
LALSA will be holding moot court try-outs on November 9 and 10 for anyone interested in representing LALSA at the 24th Annual Uvaldo Herrera Nation Moot Court Competition, hosted by the Hispanic National Bar Association. If you are interested in competing, fill out the survey at this link. This is a great opportunity to gain experience and add something to your resume, plus anyone who competes on the LALSA team will receive course credit! The tryouts are open to anyone, but if you are chosen for the team you will have to become a dues paying member of LALSA (LALSA dues are $20). 
2019 Diversity Clerkship Program - Applications Open
The ABA Business Law Section is currently accepting applications for the 2019 Diversity Clerkship Program. 

The Diversity Clerkship Program is a summer program providing business law clerkship placements for qualified diverse first or second year law students. Participating clerks receive support and mentoring in the business law field and exposure to valuable business practices.

The purpose of the Diversity Clerkship Program is to provide hands-on experience and exposure in Business Law to law students. Roles and responsibilities of selected Diversity Clerkship participants include but are not limited to the following:
-Researching cases
-Drafting memoranda and opinions
-Observing trials
-Networking with local attorneys and judges

In addition to a placement in a business court clerkship, Diversity Clerkship participants will also receive a stipend of $3,000 to cover living expenses for the duration of the 8-week clerkship.

To qualify, applicants must be considered diverse in one of the following ways: law student of color; women; law students with disabilities; LGBT law students; and/or students who have overcome social or economic disadvantages such as a physical disability, financial constraints, or cultural impediments to becoming a law student.

Transactional Law Negotiation Team Tryouts
Registration for Transactional Law Program Negotiation Team Tryouts is now open. You can register here. Flyers with the sign-up link will also be posted on the electronic bulletin board and on the bulletin board outside Prof. Koops’s office (G563). Tryout instructions and reference materials will be emailed to registrants promptly following receipt of their registration forms. The deadline for submitting completed tryout applications and materials is 5:00 P.M. on Friday, Nov. 16.
Participation is open to 2Ls, 3Ls, AJDs, SJDs, LLMs, and joint degree candidates who have completed their first year of required law school courses. All team members must have completed Contract Drafting prior to the Spring 2019 semester. One pass-fail experiential learning credit is available to students selected for the team. Students who participated on the team in the Spring 2018 semester may participate as student coaches if they so desire, but will not receive course credit.

Members of the team will prepare for two different competitions: the Magnolia Cup Invitational, hosted by the Univ. of Mississippi School of Law on March 1-2, 2019 and a Transactional Law Negotiation Competition hosted by Duke Univ. School of Law on March 23, 2019. Team meetings and practices will begin in the Spring 2019 semester.
