Student Moot for Atlanta Appellate Attorney Amy Weil

ELSSCAP and the Moot Court Society are hosting a student moot for Amy Weil, an Atlanta appellate attorney and Emory Law graduate, to prepare for her Supreme Court argument. Ms. Weil will be arguing as an amicus in support of the judgment in Culbertson v. Berryhill at the United States Supreme Court. The student moot will take place on Tuesday, October 16 from 11:45 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. in 1F. Please RSVP as space is limited.

A Conversation with Russia's Most Wanted Man- Bill Browder

Skype conversation with investor and human rights activist, Bill Browder. Mr. Browder is an American-born financier who became famous for exposing corruption within Russian entities. During the early 2000's, his interests collided with those of Vladimir Putin. After escaping Russia, Mr. Browder's Russian attorney, Sergei Magnitsky, was arrested, framed, and tortured to death in prison. The event caused Browder to become a prominent human rights activist and in 2012, he successfully lobbied Congress for the passage of the Magnitsky Act, which levies sanctions for human rights abusers. Most recently, at the Trump/Putin Helsinki Summit, Putin offered to allow Mueller's team to come interview the 12 Russian hackers in exchange for the US turning over Mr. Browder to Russian authorities.

Who’s Responsible? What’s the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID)? Can you do anything? Find out with the International Law Society (ILS), National Lawyers Guild (NLG) & Coalition Against Human Trafficking (CAHT). Personal experiences of fellow students addressing enforced disappearances will be included in the conversation.

Don't let finals or cavities scare you this Halloween! Instead, donate that candy and purchase a supplement at EPIC's mid-semester book sale this October 31 from 12:15 p.m. -1:15 p.m.! During the book sale, EPIC will host a donation drive to collect candy and wish-list items (such as socks, all-purpose wipes, pencils, and playing cards) to send to our troops and first responders through Operation Gratitude. Candy donations of more than 40 pieces will result in a $5 discount on any book or EPIC t-shirt purchase.

Spring Break in Israel

Spend your spring break exploring the history, culture, conflict and complexities of the modern State of Israel. itrek is a highly subsidized trip designed for Emory Law students. We will travel to cities across Israel and the West Bank. itrek will cover the cost of participants' hotels, meals, transportation, security and activities. Participants are responsible for buying their own airline ticket, travel insurance, and to pay a $350 participation fee (estimated total out-of-pocket cost: $1,750).

Postgraduate Fellowship Opportunity (Veterans)
Attention 3Ls interested in Veterans Work:
Equal Justice Works has a funder who wants to support a two year-postgraduate fellowship beginning fall 2019 focused on work for veterans. If you are interested in applying for this fellowship to work with Emory Law's Volunteer Clinic for Veterans, please contact Rita Sheffey and Keely Youngblood no later than Wednesday morning, October 10 to discuss the possibility of creating a project proposal to submit before the extended deadline of October 26, 2018.
