Celebrating Pride Month
June is Pride month — a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, including our UC Berkeley queer and trans staff, faculty, students & alumni. While June is designated as Pride month, we must celebrate and protect the queer and trans community 365 days a year.
Beyond recognizing and celebrating the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community, it is important that we not ignore the increasing attacks they face against their rights and safety. This year the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) calls on us to show that “we won't hide our pride!”
Staff Org Spotlight: LavenderCal
LavenderCal is UC Berkeley’s network for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer+ employees. Representatives of LavenderCal serve on the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee for the LGBTQ Community at Cal (CAC-LGBTQ) and are also represented in the system-wide University of California Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Association. LavenderCal invites collaboration with all UC staff organizations, faculty groups, and student and alumni associations. They welcome the support and participation of allies throughout campus.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. It celebrates June 19, 1865, the date when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to free the remaining enslaved people in the United States. In 2021, Congress made Juneteenth a federal holiday and this year it will be observed by UC Berkeley on Monday, June 20th.
UC Berkeley's Diversion of Equity & Inclusion offers resources for using this day as a time to genuinely reflect on what you can do to help contribute to a more humane, just and equal America. Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating not only freedom, but also opportunity, equity and access.

June marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, a law which prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or other education program that receives funding from the federal government.
Originally aimed at creating equal opportunities for girls and women in athletics, educational institutions now use Title IX to help protect the LGBTQIA+ community, ensure pay equity, combat sexual harassment and sexual violence, and more.
The UC Berkeley Staff Community, LavCal, is hosting a virtual Microagression Training with Q Wilson, a nationally accredited trainer and facilitator as well as a self-identified masculine of center POC queer.
This event will not be recorded to maintain confidentiality. Audio transcription will be enabled. RSVP via Google Form by June 17.

Cal @ SF Pride Parade 2022

The Cal Alumni Association is partnering with UC Berkeley’s Gender Equity Resource Center to lead a contingent of Cal alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends in the annual San Francisco Pride Parade on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Everyone from across the LGBTQ+ communities and allies are welcome to join in the fun.
There is no cost to march in the parade and you can find more details on the event registration page.
BSA Mentorship Program
Applications for mentors & mentees due on June 17, 2022
The BSA Mentorship Program is a volunteer program, coordinated by the Career Development Committee (CDC), that pairs experienced campus staff members (mentors) with staff who are looking to develop themselves professionally (mentees). Participants have the opportunity to build connections, explore challenges, and better understand the Berkeley organizational culture.
Origin Story: We adopted Callie from a rescue center in Auburn.
Favorite Toy: A green ball - she plays with it all day!
Fun Fact: She loves car rides. When going for walks, she will wait outside of every garage hoping it is our car.
