Peach Season in Full Swing
After a slow start to the season last week due to the cool temperatures, the volume is much stronger this week with 4 varieties (see sidebar) currently being harvested. All varieties are early clingstones but the flavor, size, and quality are very good so far this year.
Please keep in mind that due to the early end of winter conditions, most varieties will be ripening ahead of their normal schedule. For instance, yesterday (May 9) we began harvesting JuneGold which normally begins between May 18 & 23. Ripening schedules frequently change with weather conditions, so watch http://www.vogelorchard.com for weekly updates.
Plum and Blackberry Update
Both plums and blackberries appear to be at least one week away from first harvest. The blackberry crop looks pretty good but the plum crop is not strong this year.
Previous Crop Update Corrrection
In the last email, we left one of our favorite varieties out of the crop outlook -- Dixiland. We are happy to report that the Dixiland variety has a good crop this year!
