The UN's Third Committee rejected efforts to halt the work of the new expert on the protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, but the risk to the mandate is not over - resistance is now continuing in the General Assembly.

Ambassador Maza Martelli of El Salvador has been elected as the Human Rights Council’s 11th President, in accordance with the geographic rotation of the post. The Ambassadors of Georgia, Egypt, Iraq and Switzerland were elected as the Council’s Vice-Presidents.
