Issue 52 - November/December 2015

President's Message

Season’s Greetings to our MDHIMA family. As we reflect upon 2015 and look toward the New Year, it is easy to see how our future is truly bright!  The hard work of our MdHIMA committees is catalyzing our profession and making us an active player in shaping the future of HIM!

Maryland is hosting the 2016 National Convention and your expertise is needed! Please consider sharing your skill and vision by being a speaker at the 88th Annual AHIMA Convention and Exhibit, October 15-19, in Baltimore, MD.  I want to encourage you to submit a proposal by clicking here  to read the “Call for Abstracts” on the AHIMA website.  Maryland…we are innovative, we are the future! Hurry, the deadline is 11:50 p.m. CST on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.

Not only are we preparing for the AHIMA convention, but we are strategically planning for the future of MDHIMA. Your Board of Directors had a meeting in November with AHIMA Director, Zinethia Clemmons and we will meet again in February 2016. Our next steps include items such as:
  1. Review AHIMA Strategic Plan
  2. Revisit MDHIMA mission, values and goals
  3. Define the Big Audacious Goal(s)
  4. Conduct a Local Environmental Scan
  5. Define the 3-5 year plan

We activated our AHIMA Engage Site, so log on TODAY by clicking here (you will need you AHIMA user name and password). Select Maryland as one of your communities!

The Nomination Committee will be soliciting for candidates for the 2016-2017 Board positions in the next few months. Do you have what it takes to represent Maryland? Do you have a vision for our future! Are you looking at how you can make a difference in the profession! You Can Lead! You Can Volunteer! It explains the core competencies all volunteers should strive for and specifies additional competencies for leadership roles.
