Inside This Issue:

Remove the Ban

We the people

SIGN AHIMA'S PETITION TO THE WHITE HOUSE!

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

Remove the federal budget ban that prevents HHS from working on a voluntary patient safety identifier (MyHealthID)

Remove the federal budget ban that prohibits the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from participating in efforts to find a patient identification solution. We support a voluntary patient safety identifier. Accurate patient identification is critical in providing safe care but the sharing of electronic health information is being compromised because of patient identification issues. Let's start the conversation and find a solution.

Please visit http://wh.gov/i7YT6 and join your fellow AHIMA members across the US in petitioning the White House to lift the ban on government participation in discussions that will lead to a voluntary patient safety identifier solution. Note that signing is a two-step process; your signature will only be recorded after you respond to a verification e-mail sent to your specified e-mail address. You must verify, or your signature will not be recorded.

AHIMA wants to make healthcare safer, more efficient, and more effective for all patients. We must collect 100,000 signatures by April 19—that's 30 days—in order to get a response from the White House and place this important issue in the center of patient safety conversations.

We need the signatures of your colleagues, as well as your friends and family members. Help spread the word about the potentially costly and even dangerous effects of not having a patient identification solution. Advocacy begins at your own dinner table, with your family and friends. Get the toolkit at www.ahima.org/MyHealthID to learn more and get ideas on how you can get share this message.

Get involved now by going to http://wh.gov/i7YT6, and sign the petition. We need your signature today!
