Join the Engage Communities!

If you have not yet tried the replacement for the old Communities of Practice (CoP), you are missing valuable information. Organized by private (i.e. AHIMA members only) and public (i.e. anyone searching for information on HIM topics) communities, the new Engage Communities are full of information and growing! Our Wyoming CSA Engage Community has nine members – only three of which are actual WYHIMA members!

I encourage you to explore the new communities, join those that are interesting and pertain to your work environment, and especially encourage you to join the Wyoming Engage Community!

Supporting Time Pressed Physicians

From AHIMA: ICD 10 Training Available for Physicians

Online. Self Paced. Specialty Specific.

AHIMA's online ICD-10 Documentation Principles and Practice provides an overview and bite-sized, self-paced training modules that doctors can access anytime, from any device. The program customizes learning by delivering three- to five-minute modules that cover each physician's 10 to 20 most billed diagnoses and conditions, making the learning targeted and highly relevant.

AHIMA's Clinical Documentation for ICD-10 by Specialty: Principles & Practice online training platform was specifically designed with the needs of the physician and physician practices in mind. Written by physicians, CDI specialists, and medical coding experts, the program includes the following features:
  • Accessible from your computer or mobile device (Android and iOS)
  • Provides clinical documentation training for ICD-10 preparation, implementation, and ongoing performance support
  • Peer-rated with automated reminder options
  • Progress and completion tracking, analytics, and reporting

HIPAA HITECH Omnibus Rule compliance in place as of Monday

The Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has issued guidance on how the changes to certain HIPAA Privacy Rule provisions apply under the HITECH Omnibus Rule, effective Monday, September 23, including: Marketing provisions regarding refill reminders and other communications about drugs or biologics (restrictions will not be enforced for 45 days after the compliance date, or until November 7); decedent information; and disclosures of student immunization information to schools.

The government has also announced a delay in its enforcement of the requirement that certain HIPAA–covered laboratories revise their notice of privacy practices to comply with the HIPAA modifications until further notice.

AHIMA's practice briefs have also been revised to review the laws and provide guidance on ensuring compliance with the rule, available in AHIMA's HIM Body of Knowledge with log-in.
