CNN President’s Message

Lauren Houseal, RHIA

Greetings CPHIMA colleagues!

On Friday, March 14, 2014 we had our most recent educational session at Dixon University Center in Harrisburg.  Our session included topics on educating new HIM professionals, transitioning to CAC and new Omnibus Rule changes.  Thank you to all of our speakers and sponsors for this session.

CPHIMA is still looking for volunteers to serve on the board for next year (July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015).  The open positions for our ballot are President-Elect, Secretary and Program Director. If you are interested in learning more about these positions, Cynthia Hunter has just the information you are looking for!  The job descriptions for each position are on the CPHIMA website.

You may also want to consider being a Committee Chair if the open board positions don’t quite peak your interest.  Lisa Hershey, the current President-Elect, is the point person for volunteering for committee chairs.  Committee Chairs receive the same perks as our Board members.

If you haven’t already, take a look at the agenda for the PHIMA annual conference in at the Hershey Lodge. Held from May 12th-14th, this year’s theme is “Reinventing Health Information”. This is a wonderful opportunity to network with your peers for across the state!

Happy Spring to all of you! Enjoy the extra sunshine and warmer days as they come. I hope to see you at our June educational session at Lancaster General Health Burle Industries in Lancaster, PA on June 20, 2014.

Share your Knowledge - Be a Mentor

In effort to share expertise across the region, CPHIMA has a mentor program.  The purpose of this program is to provide a resource for students, a new professional or interested others the opportunity to network with a seasoned professional in their area of interest and/or expertise.  We currently have a need for two mentors willing to mentor two new coding professionals in the central PA area.

If you are interested in either serving as a mentor, please send the following information to Nathan McWilliams. He will provide you with the name and contact information of an individual of like interest.
  • NAME
  • AREA OF KNOWLEDGE (i.e., inpatient coding, outpatient coding, management, transcription, abstracting, etc.)
Once the mentor and mentee are connected, the mentor and mentee define the parameters of their communication.
