CNN President’s Message

Lisa Hershey, RHIA

As we begin a new year for CPHIMA, I would like to introduce this year’s volunteers serving on the CPHIMA Board.
  • President-Elect (Mike Brensinger)
  • Bylaws (Jennifer Shorts)
  • Secretary (Erin Spohn)
  • Membership (Laurel Heinley)
  • Treasurer (Pam Owens)
  • Nominating (Karen Tinney)
  • Director (Amber Mayberry-DiMaria)
  • Public Relations (Pat Swetland)
  • Past President (Lauren Houseal)
  • Website (Brett Miller)
  • Program Director (Cindy Henry)
  • Coding Roundtable (Linda Massey)
  • Arrangements (Dorothy Rish & Jill Clark)
These volunteers represent eight different organizations including hospitals, health systems, education and consulting firms. Our board represents five counties in the CPHIMA region. Did you know that our membership area includes 17+ counties and there are 948 AHIMA members residing in our region? Our current membership in CPHIMA is only 140 of those 948 potential members.  Have you reached out to anyone recently to encourage them to join CPHIMA? The $20 annual dues are a great value and offer not only continuing education opportunities but the chance to network with those in the field. At a recent Board meeting, I noted the collaboration and networking that went on outside of the actual Board business. These opportunities are valuable in this ever changing, fast paced HIM world.

If you haven’t done so, please remember to renew your membership for FY2014-2015 and forward this e-mail to a friend, co-worker encouraging them to join as well.

Keep an eye out for the following initiatives that will be posted on the website and published via e-mail blasts this year: Coding Roundtable with new webinar option, HIM/HIT Student Scholarships, Distinguished Member Award.  In addition, you will see and hear more about advocacy and letter writing campaigns from the local, state and national level this year.

This year’s education sessions are:
  • Friday, September 19th at the Brethren Home in New Oxford
  • Friday, December 19th at the Hershey Hotel
  • Friday, March 20th at Reading Hospital
  • Friday, June 19th – location to be determined
  • In addition, we will offer two Coding Roundtables this year
Enjoy the cool, crisp days of autumn!

Education session this Friday, Sept 19th will include a presentation by Trula Gross:

Titled: AHIMA ICD-10 Grassroots Advocacy Campaign
  • overview of AHIMA website Advocacy resources
  • letter writing activity using Advocacy Assist
Please bring your laptop so that you can participate in accessing online resources and the letter writing campaign to U.S. Senators and Representatives during the PHIMA Advocacy Update presentation.  Wifi access will be available.
