It has been both an honor, and a privilege to serve as President of the Maryland Health Information Management Association (MdHIMA) during the past year. The journey of any President of our component state association (CSA) begins through volunteering to serve on committees, holding executive board level positions, as well as serving as a Delegate to the national association. Through these experiences, many long-term professional relationships are formed, and a more robust understanding of our industry is gained. I will always cherish this experience, and encourage all of you to get involved at any level, in order to help support our Association, and promote our profession.
This primary focus at both the national level- AHIMA- as well as within our state association has been on strategic planning. AHIMA has partnered with StuderGroup, and has identified five key strategic initiatives that serve as the framework all future initiatives. Our Executive Board- joined by some of our Past Presidents- performed our own strategic planning sessions, and successfully revised our mission and vision, and identified key goals that, when met, will help move our profession forward while maintaining alignment with AHIMA. This document was shared at our Annual Meeting, and will be made available to all members via the “members only†section of our website. I wish to thank all of you who served this year in any capacity. Our Quarterly Business Meetings, Data Quality sessions, and our Annual Meeting were all extremely well coordinated, with excellent educational sessions. It is through these efforts that we continue to succeed as an organization. I am proud of the accomplishments made, and am confident that Monna Nabers, your incoming President, will expand upon our work and keep the momentum going. My final message to everyone is to continue to strive for excellence!
