The Senate Passes SGR
Without ICD-10 Delay Language

April 14, 2015

The US Senate voted 92-8 late Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 to repeal the sustainable growth rate SGR formula that adjusts Medicare Payments to Physicians AND NO ICD-10 DELAY LANGUAGE WAS ATTACHED.

We can all let out a great sigh of relief..... The SGR Bill HR2 was passed last night in the US Senate without any ICD-10 delay language! The bill is expected to go to President Obama for his signature and this statement was confirmed on the White House website!

There are now 12 appropriations bills waiting to be moved to a committee this week. Congress has until the end of the fiscal year, September 30th to pass the bills and fund various government programs and entities.

AHIMA is still remaining strong on Capitol Hill and will continue to keep our membership updated in any other attempts by the AMA to attach ICD-10 delay language into the US House of Representatives and/or Senatorial bills.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on April 8th announced a new social media campaign to spread the word about their website called the Road to 10 and all of the new ICD-10 transition resources available on this site. You can access this by going to and scrolling down to SPOTLIGHT – there you will see the CMS logo for the Road to 10.

CMS is using Thunderclap platform, Facebook, Twitter and tumblr to actively involve the private office practices and voice their support as champions in the transition to ICD-10 by the Oct 1st implementation date.

I view the CMS social media involvement as a positive move towards ICD-10 implementation date and building support directly from the MD's where it should be.

Hill Day proved to be a great success for our membership and the results of the Senate vote confirms this.

Many thanks go out to our volunteers, HIT students and board members who actively participated on Hill Day March 24, 2015. You made your voices HEARD in support of patient safety issues and patient outcomes for ICD-10 as well as, the Patient Identification and Data Quality under the HIPAA act known to our members of Congress and the Senate.
