Fantastic Spring Business Meeting and Convention Held in May!

  • The Spring Meetings in Douglas, Wyoming offered participants a fun, educational experience.  Twelve CE’s were earned over the course of the meeting held May 2 – 4.

  • CE’s were earned in the Clinical Foundations Domain with a great presentation by Dr. Bartholomew sharing information on Diabetes, TIA/Stroke/CVA’s, Cardiovascular Disease, and Hypertension.

  • We were delighted to have Theresa Rihanek of AHIMA on hand to discuss Medicare and Medicaid RAC’s and other audits and also common coding compliance issues which counted for our Clinical Data Management Domain.

  • Ryan Smith, the CEO of Memorial Hospital of Converse County spoke to us about a safety incident he lived through while working in Alaska. A disgruntled former employee returned to the hospital and opened fire killing one employee and severely injuring another. His story was riveting and provided insight into physical safety for credits in the Management Development Domain.

  • Elizabeth Hoy of the Governor’s Office offered an update on health care in Wyoming helping us see the future for credits in External Forces.

  • If this well rounded slate of education wasn’t enough, we had a fun Silent Auction – we snacked and talked and tried to out-bid each other on a number of really nice items that raised over $600 for our association!

  • During our Business Meeting we were happy to have volunteers agree to serve on a Program Committee to work on plans for another wonderful meeting next year, place to be determined! Thank you Rhonda Wortman, Sarah Reynolds, Connie Andrews and Nanette James!

Notes from the Business Meeting

  • Due to the inability to put a ballot together for a new slate of officers, the membership voted, on the advice of AHIMA, to retain the current slate of officers. Therefore, Amy Hayes will remain President, Kim Johnson will remain Secretary/Treasurer, Barb Pickinpaugh will remain Director, and Lisa Fink will remain President Elect. The appointment of Lisa Fink was made by the Board in January due to then President Elect Connie Bentz’s resignation.

  • Updated Bylaws are in the process of being written according to the template provided by AHIMA – more news as this develops!
