Joint Commission Sentinel Event Alert

On March 31, the Joint Commission issued a Sentinel Event Alert issued relative to the safe use of health information technology.

The AHIMA IGPHC (Information Governance Principles for Health Care) are referenced in the Joint Commission Alert.

Modern Healthcare has also addressed this issue. Click here to view. This is a great opportunity and a responsibility for HIM professionals to lead Information Governance (IG) efforts in your facility. If you are not already familiar with IG, review and learn about  Information Governance Principles for Health Care - you may be surprised to learn that you are ALREADY leading IG efforts through traditional HIM practices. PLEASE BE A PART OF THIS!!

THIMA will be offering more educational opportunities in IG in the coming months.

Announcing New Webinar Series: CDI for ICD-10 by Body System


This program follows the general format of ICD-10-CM chapters for each body system are designed to provide each participant with information needed to facilitate proper assignment of the appropriate ICD-10-CM code. The program will also cover the anatomy of the different body systems, general ICD-10-CM coding conventions and guidelines as well as chapter specific coding rules. Upon completion of the webinar series, each participant should be able to identify issues and documentation needed to allow for correct ICD-10-CM coding.

New Dates for ICD-10 Bootcamps in Knoxville


The ICD-10 BootCamps planned for April 9, 22, and 23, have been rescheduled.

The new dates are June 4th (instead of April 9), June 30 (instead of April 22), and July 1 (instead of April 23).
