President's Message

Alisha R. Smith, MS, RHIA, CHPS

AlishaJuly is a month of warm weather, vacations, and celebrations! I’ve been anxiously awaiting  the time to transition and begin my journey as your President for the 2016-2017 THIMA fiscal year. We have already kicked off the new year in a sprint and have a busy year planned for the association with new and exciting opportunities for our members.

In a few short weeks, the THIMA Executive Board will be attending the AHIMA Advocacy & Leadership Symposium on July 14th and 15th in Chicago, IL. This symposium engages AHIMA and CSA leaders in strategic direction, envisioning the future, and HIM focus—specifically focusing on a strategic plan for 2017 and beyond.

Go ahead and mark your calendar for AHIMA's Crack the Code: Advanced Coding Workshops in Nashville, TN August 15th-18th.  This four-day workshop is customizable, as it is designed to assist healthcare professionals with coding advanced cases in CPT, ICD-10-CM, and ICD-10-PCS coding systems. All you need to do is choose the classification system meeting your training needs and create your own one- to four-day coding training schedule. Each workshop is facilitated by two expert coding faculty members, who walk participants through the decision process of identifying correct codes with actual patient health records. Go to www.ahima.org for more information.

I appreciate the guidance of all my predecessors and look forward to leading the membership in collaboration with the THIMA board. It is an honor to be working with you all to better the HIM profession.
