The Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Model Announced

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a new initiative from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Innovation Center (CMS Innovation Center): The Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Model of payment and care delivery.

Building upon experience from the Pioneer ACO Model and the Medicare Shared Savings Program (Shared Savings Program), the Next Generation ACO Model offers a new opportunity in accountable care—one that sets predictable financial targets, enables providers and beneficiaries greater opportunities to coordinate care, and aims to attain the highest quality standards of care.

Industry professionals create framework for measuring HIT value

Emerging 'doc fix' deal includes only a partial cost offset

A proposed congressional "doc fix" deal will include a permanent repeal of Medicare's sustainable growth-rate formula and a two-year extension of the Children's Health Insurance Program with a total cost exceeding $200 billion. Only a portion of the cost will be offset by spending cuts, said four lobbyists familiar with the negotiations. Funding a permanent fix has stymied Congress during past attempts to move beyond a temporary patch for the issue, as was done last year. Details are still subject to negotiations between House Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and therefore could change, sources warned.

Attest Soon to Ensure Successful Attestation Status in CMS System

Eligible professionals now have until 11:59 pm ET on March 20, 2015, to attest to meaningful use for the Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program 2014 reporting year. CMS extended the deadline to allow providers extra time to submit their meaningful use data. CMS continues to urge providers to begin attesting for 2014 as soon as they can. Medicare eligible professionals must attest to meaningful use every year to receive an incentive and avoid a payment adjustment. Note: The Medicare extension does not affect deadlines for the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program. Additionally, the EHR reporting option for PQRS has been extended until March 20, 2015.
