WYHIMA December 2013 Newsletter

Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year to all WYHIMA Members

Spring 2014 Meeting

Your Board is in the preliminary stages of planning our annual Spring Meeting!

Please hold the dates:  May 7 – 10, 2014 for our meeting.

The venue has not yet been determined but we are meeting in Casper Wyoming to centralize the meeting for the convenience of the membership.  We are also working to meet the educational needs of the membership.  We want to provide cost effective and pertinent education for you, your staff, and even provider office staff in your communities.  To that end we are planning and preparing ICD 10 education and hands on ICD 10 refresher sessions for the 2014 Spring Meeting.  The entire meeting will be focused on ICD 10 to assist the membership in final preparation for ICD 10 implementation and to meet your ICD 10 continuing education needs.  As details about the sessions emerge we will share them with you so watch your email and the WYHIMA website!  Click here to the visit WYHIMA website.

Should you need detailed information regarding your continuing education certification and recertification information can be found on the AHIMA website.

Have you tried out the Engage Communities yet?

The new and improved Engage has replaced the old Communities of Practice and I find them easier to use.  There are now 17 members in the Wyoming Community – however, the majority of them are not WYHIMA members.  This is a free to us communication tool and we highly encourage you to join the community and join the conversations!  Right now, there is a discussion thread regarding Coding Roundtables.  Also, this is an AHIMA member benefit and there is a wealth of information in the various communities such as the Coding, Classification and Reimbursement Community and the Confidentiality, Privacy and Security Community.

Panel makes accounting of disclosures recommendations.

On December 4, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT’s Health Information Technology Policy Committee (HITPC) unanimously approved recommendations on accounting of disclosures. The recommendations developed by the HITPC Privacy and Security Tiger Team discuss how to implement the long-awaited ARRA-HITECH requirement for HIPAA covered entities to account for disclosures of personal health information for treatment, payment, and healthcare operations made through an electronic health record. Learn more about the guidance and next steps on the Journal of AHIMA website.
