Gardening in July
Add a splash of color to your patio or porch for the holiday. There is still time to fill those planters or hanging baskets with lovely, long-lasting annual and perennial combinations. Not sure which plants to put together? Not to worry.
We can help!
Plants that are newly established will need to be well watered by allowing water to penetrate deep into the soil.
~ Apply mulch 3-4 inches deep to retain moisture and control weeds.
~ Prop up tree branches as they become heavy with fruit.
~ Stake tomatoes and other plants that may need support as fruits, vegetables, and blossoms become large.
~ Remove faded rose blossoms.
~ Deadhead or prune annuals and perennials to encourage new blooms and improve plant appearance. Rudbeckia and Echinacea are just a couple of perennials that benefit from deadheading.
July is not too late to plant vegetables and herbs. It is a good time to start a second sowing of certain vegetables such as carrots, beans and winter squash.
