It's a Dog's Life: Both Ends of the Leash

Andrew Foster has lived and worked in the City of Port Phillip for over 40 years. Described as a 'painter's painter' his latest exhibition at Gasworks Arts Park delves into our relationship with dogs, in a beautiful, thought-provoking way.

Andrew has won Community Artist awards, the St Kilda Festival poster design competition and the Linden Postcard Show. He says:

“By observing dogs and their owners, including my own dogs, I have come to develop an intense curiosity about the relationship we humans have with our animal companions. No other animal is as ready to watch, listen and obey us humans. Very few relationship we have with the animal world claim our hearts and mind as does that with our ‘Best Friends’.

I decided to have an exhibition about this unique and fascinating primate/canine relationship.

My biggest inspiration is the love and bonding we share with dogs.”

Open Tuesday 21 March - Sunday 9 April 2017
The Angela Robarts-Bird Gallery

Dog Party with artist Andrew Foster

Join artist Andrew Foster for our first ever doggie gallery viewing!

There's a canine theme to March at Gasworks Arts Park. Not only do we have our first ever exhibition devoted to the beauty of our favourite dogs, we also have an event designed just for them. Yes, this is Melbourne (and possibly the world's!) first ever doggie gallery viewing. Four-legged visitors will receive a complimentary doggie biscuit from Priscilla Jones (no cocktail sausages, this is an informal 'do') and be in with a change to win a portrait by Andrew Foster for their owner or significant other!

Regular users of the Gasworks Park off-leash area know that our local pooches are friendly, and that fresh drinking water is always available for them.
But how can you and your dog be prepared for your first gallery experience together? We filmed a handy advice guide with Command Dog Training, here.

Artist Update: News from Ted Powell
Resident Artist Ted Powell is looking forward to working on a series of prints and vases inspired by the major cities that he's lived and worked in. Considering that Ted has lived in London, Taipei, Bangkok and Detroit, plus worked in Beijing, Shanghai, LA, Rio de Janiero and Chicago, as well as Melbourne and Sydney, we are looking forward to artistic world views of noise, people and movement!
Ted had three very well-received exhibitions in 2016, including one here at Gasworks Arts Park, another one in Melbourne of his outback paintings, and a third in Hong Kong. Pictured above is a canvas from the Outback series (left) and a painting of Albert Park Lake looking out into the CBD with the artist himself (right).
You can read more about our Resident Artists here.
Gasworks Farmers Market: Saturday 18 March

Nashville News from Little Feet Music
Rachel tells us "I've been in Nashville, recording a new Little Feet Music album. The players were absolutely sensational. Nick Buda (Taylor Swift, Missy Higgins, Lionel Richie) on drums, Tim Marks (Jeff Beck, Jewel) and Steve Mackey (Dolly Parton, Pulp, Florence and the Machine) on bass guitar, and more, all did an amazing job of turning my little ditties into magical sounds! I'll put previews on my Little Feet Music YouTube channel."
You can book into Rachel's music classes for children up to 5 years old and their parents, here
Priscilla Jones Cafe - Open as usual, delicious as always!
Priscilla Jones Café reports enthusiastic feedback from happy caffeinated customers about their new Allpress coffee.

As Autumn arrives (slowly it seems!) we are looking forward to an updated menu from chefs Raj and Rachael, with input from baristas Leslie and Joylene. We hear raw and healthy food trends will be represented, as well as comforting year-round favorites.
Priscilla Jones is open from 7.30am until 4.30pm every day, for breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon teas. The café recently featured in Webjet's round-up of dog friendly cafe's in Melbourne: a nod to their yummy dog treats, puppuccinos, and friendly welcome.

While the warm weather continues, enjoy the leafy courtyard with a morning coffee. And, remember that Priscilla Jones is a great spot for your next birthday party or corporate function!
We have 10 double passes to give away to Loving, thanks to our friends at Entertainment One.
Loving tells the true story of Richard and Mildred Loving, who fell in love and married in 1958, defying Virginia's laws against interracial marriage. Jailed and then banished, the Lovings spent the next decade searching for a way back home. Loving is a tender, well-crafted film, with powerful performances from Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga. View the trailer here. Click here to enter. Loving is on general release from March 16.
