Jeff Wise, selected by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to serve as the first Executive Director of the Justice Center, passed away in Saratoga on January 17 after a brief illness. He leaves behind two daughters and a sister.
Jeff will be remembered not only for his exceptional stewardship of the Justice Center, but also for his passionate defense of the needs of people with disabilities and special needs throughout his professional career.
Upon learning of Jeff’s passing, Governor Cuomo released this public statement: "I am deeply saddened to learn of Jeff Wise's sudden passing. As the Executive Director of the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs since its founding in 2013, Jeff was a dedicated, exemplary public servant who gave his professional life to the cause of helping those in need. Throughout his career, Jeff worked tirelessly to support vulnerable individuals, including the homeless, people with mental illness, and those with developmental disabilities. His stewardship of the Justice Center has benefited the lives of people across the state, and he will be greatly missed by all those who worked with him. On behalf of all New Yorkers, my thoughts are with Jeff's family and friends during this difficult time."

Jeff’s family, friends and colleagues gathered at memorial services January 22 in Saratoga Springs to mourn Jeff’s passing and share heart-warming stories about a man who was highly respected in his field and loved by many. Jeff will always be remembered as a passionate advocate for people unable to advocate for themselves.
