On November 1st, Cape Light Compact and the other Mass Save Sponsors submitted their Three-Year Energy Efficiency plan to the Department of Public Utilities. The plan highlights the Compact’s commitment to energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions reductions, equity, and workforce development. The plan includes robust incentives to help businesses and residents make the transition from fossil fuels to heat pumps for space and water heating and enhanced offers for income qualified residents, renters, and businesses. While the benefits of the plan far outweigh the costs, it is important for customers to remember that these programs are funded by the Energy Efficiency charge on their electric bill. Due to the expansion of these programs, customers will see an increase in this line item on their electric bill. A market rate residential customer using 650 kWh a month can expect to see an increase of $9.64 in their total monthly bill. The Compact understands that these rising costs impact our customers, but we believe customers will be able to recoup those costs through our programs which will offer significant rebates for HVAC equipment, weatherization and windows, appliances and more.
