2018 Power Supply Prices Announced

Supporting Renewable Energy is Easy and Affordable

Cape Light Compact has announced the new power supply pricing for the next six-month term that will begin after customers' meter reads in December. While pricing is increasing slightly over the current pricing period, the Compact is proud to continue offering savings to customers against the utility's basic service pricing while enabling customers to support renewable energy resources.

Why Are Prices Increasing?

As the New England region has seen over the last several winters, electricity market pricing continues to be higher on average during the winter months, primarily due to natural gas pipeline constraints causing market volatility. Although the Compact's green aggregation power supply program supports renewable resources, the electricity itself that is delivered to customers' homes comes from the New England power grid. In 2016 almost 50% of electricity produced in New England came from natural gas. Limited New England natural gas pipeline capacity becomes a problem in the winter when natural gas is used for both electricity production and heating, which drives the electricity price up during the heating months.

Why Should You Choose Cape Light Compact?

  • Less expensive than Eversource's Basic Service Rates
  • 100% of customers' electricity usage is matched with renewable energy certificates (RECs)
  • Support existing local renewable energy projects and future renewable energy projects.
  • No contract
  • No surprise charges - fixed supply price for length of term
  • No termination or monthly service fees
  • Support a local organization dedicated to supplying its customers with affordable renewable energy and energy saving programs
