The details
Thursday 5 - 7PM

Most folks show up around 5:30.

La Frite Belgian Bistro
728 S. Alamo

The sign on the door may say "Closed", but the door will be unlocked. La Frite doesn't open for dinner until 6PM, hence the sign. Just come in and around to the bar.

This started as a get-together for Lavaca neighbors, but now it's expanded to include regular attendees from King William, Downtown and elsewhere in the city. We also get folks who are in town visiting friends or attending business events. Everyone is warmly welcomed.

Select wines and beers are available for $3 to $4.

(A note from Jane and Jim: As a courtesy, we suggest that if you order appetizers, you do so by 6:30 or 6:45, before the restaurant gets busy).

Jane is away this week, visiting family in New Jersey.

However, the Lavaca & Friends Happy Hour goes on. Yes, that's right, we're holding our usual Happy Hour get-together this Thursday in the warm, cozy bar at La Frite (details in the sidebar on the left).

Come have a glass of wine or a beer with your neighbors, toast the holidays, and keep me company.

Of equal importance, the newsletter goes on as well.

Here's what's happening in the coming week, cribbed from the notes Jane made before she left town.

Oh, and be sure to check out the Do You Know feature at the end of this newsletter. Since Jane is out of town and I'm in control, I've included her bio this week!

Do you know Jane?

Jane Gennarelli

Jane grew up on the north shore of Long Island, about 25 miles east of New York City. Right after high school, she left the NY area to go to college in Lexington Kentucky, but moved back to NY after school and worked in Manhattan for a few years. She made a couple of more moves (Washington DC and New Jersey) before moving to San Antonio.

Although she studied social work, Jane's career has been in the business world -- specifically in applying technology to the practice of law. Today, she owns her own small consulting and products company with her business partner and friend, Jim Feuerstein.

Jane's traveled a lot -- for both business and pleasure -- and enjoys going to new places, both inside and out of the US. She has especially enjoyed her trips to Europe and thinks that there's no better vacation spot than Italy. She last visited there about 10 years ago, and is hoping to make a return trip soon.

Jane is a knitter -- and has been for about 30 years. She pretty much always has a project in the works. For the past few years, she has coordinated family and friends' handicraft efforts and prepared shipments of knitted and crocheted baby sweaters and blankets for The Baby Pack Project, an organization that provides clothing to infants in need in South Africa. She has also knitted donations for the Seton Home, here in San Antonio. If you knit or crochet and would like to join Jane in these efforts,  click here to send her an email and let her know!

Jane moved to San Antonio from the northeast in 1994. She lived in the suburbs on the north side of town until she moved to Lavaca in 2007. Jane loves living in Lavaca. She and business partner Jim started the Lavaca & Friends weekly happy hour, and she authors this weekly Lavaca & Friends newsletter.

Of course, no bio of Jane would be complete without a mention of her much-loved rescue dog, Micky. Jane adopted Micky in 2008, and she can't imagine life without him. "He made my home complete," she says.

Micky takes Jane out for walks in the neighborhood every day. Next time you see them out for a stroll, stop and say hello!

That's all the news Jane collected for this week. I hope you can make it to La Frite on Thursday!

-- Jim
