COMPLETE / A Sample of Our Accomplishments
Aspen Skiing Company  / HOSPITALITY + COMMERCIAL / Aspen, CO

To kick off the winter season, Rowland+Broughton would like to acknowledge our long-term collaboration with the Aspen Skiing Company (ASC) on a collection of hospitality and commercial projects, both on-mountain and centrally located in Aspen and Snowmass, Colorado, and in Ketchum, Idaho. ASC shares our appreciation of the unique mountain environment, similar guiding principles, and the importance of designing and building with an eye toward excellence and sustainability.

Over the past eight years, R+B’s design team has worked alongside ASC on projects including extensive interior remodels of the Ajax Tavern at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola, slopeside Element 47 restaurant in the renowned Little Nell hotel, the historic Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro on Aspen Highlands, and branding and interiors for the Limelight Hotels in Aspen, Colorado, and Ketchum, Idaho, which is expected to be complete in December 2016.
Cloud Nine Bistro / HOSPITALITY / Aspen, CO

Selected to complete the remodel of this ski patrol hut turned European-style bistro, R+B designed an open kitchen concept, expanded the dining room seating capacity, and created a private dining space. Essential to the renovation, the design team made sure to preserve the charming and eclectic atmosphere that makes Cloud Nine Bistro a unique experience.
Four Mountain Sports / COMMERCIAL / Snowmass, CO

R+B designed a space for all season rental/retail activity at the base of Snowmass Mountain. Inspired by the on-mountain trail maps, the design introduces guests to the Aspen Snowmass brand, helps them easily navigate the rental process, and creates an exceptional overall experience.
Aspen Ticket Office  / COMMERCIAL / Aspen, CO

R+B redesigned the guest service experience at the Aspen and Snowmass Mountain Ticket Offices to reflect the world-class brand and amenities of Aspen Snowmass. As the first impression for visitors to the resort, it is essential to properly brand the office, employ sustainable materials throughout the space and efficiently space plan in order to expedite the ticket buying process.
PROJECT SHOWCASE / Projects In Progress

Limelight Hotel / HOSPITALITY / Ketchum, ID

Rowland+Broughton is looking forward to the opening of the Limelight Hotel in Ketchum, Idaho, next month!  Modeled after the company’s successful Limelight Hotel in Aspen, for which R+B completed a full interior design program, the contemporary design aesthetic invites guests to “bask in the limelight” of this unique hotel design concept. This is Aspen Skiing Company’s first expansion project beyond Colorado and we are proud to be part of the venture.

The Aspen Shop / COMMERCIAL / Aspen, CO

Opening this winter, R+B developed the interior design for the new Aspen Skiing Company logo retail store. Paying homage to the natural elements of Aspen, the interior of the shop will use materials such as reclaimed wood for the walls, charred black wood for an accent wall, and wood inspired tiles for the flooring. Merchandise will be displayed from chair lift and gondola inspired clothing racks.

ROWLAND+BROUGHTON CULTURE
Updates from the R+B team

The R+B team would like to thank John, Sarah and our Directors of Fun for organizing a wonderful bi-annual team gathering to see The Motet play at Red Rocks Amphitheater in July. Rain or shine, the team had a wonderful time at the Denver studio and is thankful for our time together.

R+B would like to thank our summer architectural interns, Christian Stroch and Samantha Strang, for all their project work at the Aspen and Denver studios. Christian has returned to the University of Virginia for his graduate degree and Samantha is finishing her MArch program at the University of Colorado Denver this year.
Wedding bells rang for Denver colleague, Mark Bever, Project Designer, and his new wife, Kate, at Camp Hale, Colorado, in July (pictured left). In October Caitlyn Gembarowicz, MarCom Manager, and her partner, Jonathan, were also married at Gunnison River Farms in Austin, Colorado. Congratulations!
R+B would also like to welcome our newest RoBro members to the family. Issac Walter was born on 20 April 2016 to Architect/Project Manager, Delvon Nemechek, AIA, and his wife, Meghan.
On 26 September 2016, baby girl Bently Teagan was born to Project Designer, Mark Hardman, and his wife, Vanessa. Congratulations to our team members and their little RoBros!
Architect Bryan May, AIA, ventured to Germany to meet with MBM Konstruktionen and to evaluate and research their windows. He also traveled to Petersen Tegl, a brickworks in Denmark, to meet their team, learn more about their unique product line, and view their brickmaking process. Each of these products will be key components of the Victorian Square project in Aspen.  As he was traveling, Bryan wrote to the team, “The fact that I am in Europe right now should excite anyone to join R+B. If this type of opportunity doesn't stir someone's passion for design, nothing will. This is the most invigorating trip of my professional career, and I can't wait to share it with everyone!”
Finally, Sarah and John are pleased to announce that Amanda Christianson, LEED AP, has been named Director of Operations and Studio Leader. Also named Studio Leaders are Denver team members Brandt Shwayder, LEED AP (pictured left), Jayna Kline, ASID, IIDA, and Todd Biekkola, AIA, LEED AP, and along with Aspen team members Dana Ganssle Ellis, Associate AIA, LEED AP, Scott McHale, LEED AP, and Sara Upton, AIA. The Studio Leader role recognizes individuals who contribute significantly to R+B’s holistic and strategic growth, design excellence and studio leadership.
