Game On / RESIDENTIAL

Aspen, Colorado

Located in Aspen’s West End, across from the cultural offerings of the Benedict Music Tent and the Aspen Institute, ‘Game On’ is a modern interpretation of the historic, turn-of-the-century homes that comprise much of the neighborhood. The exterior façade was intended to bring a sense of clarity and precision while utilizing traditional materials. The open floor plan connects the indoor and outdoor spaces with sliding glass pocket doors, allowing for large-scale entertaining as well as peaceful relaxation. The interior palate features calm and tranquil wood tones with custom built-ins and furniture. ‘Game On’ has achieved LEED Gold certification for its sustainable design.

"Game On represents a focused and restrained design that shows the rigor of R+B’s design aesthetic. Its beauty in materials and textures, is balanced by the proportions of the spaces which give an expansive feeling." John Rowland, AIA

Honor Society / HOSPITALITY

Denver, Colorado

Located on 16th Street, adjacent to Denver’s newly redeveloped Union Station, Honor Society is an exciting new “fast fine” restaurant concept pairing forward-thinking design with healthy, seasonal cuisine. Set within a LEED certified building, which required each tenant to also achieve LEED certification, the concept for the 3,500 square foot space was to combine classic barn detailing with the clean, fresh lines of a modern loft. Against a purposeful, neutral palette, finishes and furnishings include reclaimed barnwood, metal paneling, recycled glass countertops, reclaimed oak fence planks, concrete flooring, tin ceilings and custom-designed community tables, banquettes and wall graphics.

To aid in the flow of the restaurant, which includes an ample bar and offers both sit-down dining and take-out services, the R+B team utilized extensive 3-D modeling to help fine tune the design and materials palette and allow the client team to “see” the space prior to construction. Since its opening, Zagat acclaimed, Honor Society has become a hub for residents, visitors and local business people and workers looking for healthy, well-crafted, affordable food.

"It was an awesome process. The (R+B) designers were first class people with great ideas. They understood the importance of easily moving customers through the line so there are no bottlenecks and added nuances to the interior design that are absolutely beautiful. When people walk in, they get a nice organic vibe."
Justin Brunson, Owner and Executive Chef, Honor Society, Old Major and Masterpiece Deli

Launchpad / COMMERCIAL

Carbondale, Colorado

Rowland+Broughton assisted Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities and Dance Initiative, two Carbondale based non-profits, to successfully acquire a lease for the old Carbondale Public Library.  Architects for the project, R+B designed a beautiful, multi-purpose space for the movement arts. The Launchpad features two professional grade performing arts studios, an art gallery, a promenade, and a boutique. Equipped with spring-loaded Harlequin dance floors, the 1,150 sq ft, light filled studio space is accentuated with soaring multi-story ceilings punctuated by skylights structurally designed to hold dangling silks for aerial performers and circus classes.

"The design and oversight of the renovation of the Gordon Cooper Library into The Launchpad was incredibly well considered and accomplished, especially as Dana Ellis was working with two clients who had some different needs and desires. Dana was able to find compromises where required without sacrificing any important elements. The design is a model of simplicity and elegance." Peter Gilbert, Dance Initiative Founder

Matsuhisa / HOSPITALITY

Denver, Colorado

Rowland+Broughton is excited to be partnering with Matsuhisa Denver LLC as architect and interior designer for the new Matsuhisa Denver in the high-end Cherry Creek North neighborhood. Located in the Steele Creek multi-use development at the corner of First Avenue and Steele Street, the new 7,800 square foot restaurant will be the third in Colorado featuring the cuisine of internationally renowned chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa. Textural contrast, carefully designed lightscapes, a muted natural palette and modern detailing will combine to create a well-balanced, flowing environment that’s elegant, functional and appealing to guests. Completion is expected for 2016.
