Fairtrade Fortnight 2015
Happy New Year from the Scottish Fair Trade Forum! We all hope that you had a wonderful holiday season.
To start things off this year we want to highlight Fairtrade Fortnight 2015. This will run from 23rd February until 8th March. Fairtrade Fortnight is used to help increase awareness of Fairtrade products from around the world. There are now over 4,500 Fairtrade products available so there are plenty of products to raise awareness about.

If you are interested in getting involved either as an individual, or as part of group now is the perfect time to start finding a way to help out.
Have a look around our website for ideas about how to start campaigning, check out the Fairtrade Foundation website, or get in touch (0141 353 5611 or email us) to find out if there is a Fair Trade group in your area!
Scottish Events During Fairtrade Fortnight
As part of Fairtrade Fortnight 2015 the Scottish Fair Trade Forum will be involved in organising and supporting many events across Scotland
We have arranged for a visit from an experienced machinist, Marie Mirielle Pamela L'Intelligent, an employee with Craft Aid (Mauritius). The organisation is a non-profit company based in Mauritius and produces ethical school clothing and Fair Trade cotton uniform for Koolskools in the UK. Craft Aid was created in 1982, and their main objective is to provide paid employment to mentally and physically disabled people and under privileged groups.

Other visitors we are hoping to support are from Bala Sport. It is a co-operative style organisation based in Glasgow that imports Fairtrade certified sports balls from Pakistan. We will also be working with the Fairtrade Foundation to bring other Fair Trade producers to Scotland.
The visiting producers will engage in civic and community events organised by various organisations and Fair Trade campaigners around the country during Fairtrade Fortnight 2015. They will be discussing their experiences of being Fair Trade producers and will engage in Q&A sessions during their scheduled events.

Keep an eye on our events page to stay up-to-date with all of the events. If there is anything you would like us to put on our events page please let us know by emailing info@sftf.org.uk.

Ideas for Fairtrade Fortnight
It is now less than 5 weeks until Fairtrade Fortnight and JTS is working hard to put their plans in place. They have set themselves the ambitious target to sell 15 Tonnes of rice in Fairtrade Fortnight 2015, also known as their “15 for 15” campaign. Of course, to achieve this they need you to buy their lovely Kilombero rice.
For ideas on how you can help make this happen please visit the JTS website.

If you have any questions or would like to place an order email JTS at info@jts.co.uk
alternatively phone them on 0141 255 0901.

Scottish Fair Trade Retail Network meets in Perth

The Forum has recently supported the formation of a Scottish Fair Trade Retail Network bringing together Fair Trade retailers (shops, stallholders and online retailers). At an all-day workshop in Perth, retailers shared best practice and discussed ways to establish joint promotional work and explore the possibility of joint purchasing.

The network has set up its own Facebook group so that retailers can continue to share ideas and knowledge. If you are a Fair Trade retailer based in Scotland and would like to get involved email us and we will put you in touch with the network.

NCC Report January 2015 from Liz Cotton
Last week I attended my first meeting at the Fairtrade Foundation as the Scottish NCC (National Campaigner Committee) member. It was a packed two days with various speakers talking about different aspects of the Fairtrade Foundation’s role in supporting farmer and producers through Fairtrade and some inspiring input from an external speaker, Nicolas Mounard, the managing director of Twin and Twin Trading sharing his organisation’s work through advocacy and trade in the coffee industry.

It was very encouraging to hear of other campaigners’ activities and to share common challenges we face.  There was some lively discussion around timely access for resources for Fairtrade Fortnight and are assured that problems encountered this year will not repeated.

I hope that I will be able to bring to the table issues facing Scottish campaigners and would very much like any input from anyone about issues that you would like to be raised. Please pass any comments and feedback to me liz@rainbowturtle.org.uk
