Library News - July 2021

Welcome to Semester 2 at the University of Divinity.

This newsletter outlines library resources and services available to all students, staff and other members of the University of Divinity. Follow the links throughout for more information.

The Library Hub provides all members of the University with a single point of access to an extensive range of online resources (databases, ejournals and eBooks) and a wealth of other library-related information. It includes links to many useful tools and resources, including academic resources, library special collections, FAQs, and a range of general and subject-based LibGuides

Over the semester break the
Library Hub has undergone an upgrade.
The “Single Search" box brings back results from both the Library Hub's electronic resources as well as the print holdings of associated libraries.
Use the filters on the left to expand or limit your search results.

Most other information is available via the drop down menus across the top of the Library Hub home page.
See the
Searching tab on the Library Hub LibGuide for more information. A range of short How-To Videos are also available on this guide.
You can also take a scroll through the new Library Hub Orientation page.
Shared Catalogue
Mannix, Stirling, St Paschal and St Athanasius Libraries recently moved to a shared library system. Further information is available via the "Shared Services" dropdown on the Library Hub home page.
The new shared system will also provide access to all
Course Reserve items for units offered at the colleges associated with the four participating libraries. This provides a simple way for academic staff to link to key materials from each unit from the University's ARK Learning Management System.
Search results will display live availability data for items held at the four participating libraries, as well as holdings information for other libraries, including University of Divinity Libraries, Victorian Libraries, and Libraries Worldwide. This is possible because the new system is based on WorldCat, the world's most comprehensive library database.
Over 20 LibGuides have been created by Library Hub staff to provide access to resources related to key topic and subject areas.
These include:
We welcome your feedback and/or suggestions for additional content and/or possible new guides. Please email
Can't come to the library? The Accessing Library Resources LibGuide will help you access resources when you are studying or working remotely.
If you would like assistance navigating the new Library Hub interface or to find out more about library services and resources at the University, Library Orientation sessions will be available in week 3 of semester. These sessions are open to all. Please email to register your attendance.
  • Tuesday 10th August 2021 - 1-2pm - This will be a face-to-face session held at Mannix Library.
278 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne, VIC 3002
One-on-one sessions are also available at anytime. Please email to schedule a time.
The libraries associated with your home college may also be offering their own library orientation sessions.
In December 2018 fourteen libraries signed the University of Divinity Libraries Agreement. These signatory "University of Divinity Libraries" provide access and borrowing rights to all staff, students and other members of the University. The list of signatory libraries is available on the Library Hub website. Further details about each of these libraries is also available in the online UD Libraries Brochure.
Your first point of contact for general library enquires and assistance should be the library or libraries associated with your home College
All members of the University are entitled to access and borrow from all University of Divinity Libraries, to access the University Library Hub, and to receive a University ID Card.

Lean Library is a browser extension that delivers full-text content to you, regardless of where you are linking from, and without the need to visit the Library Hub website first.

Lean Library will automatically detect when you are on a website that contains content that the Library Hub subscribes to.

Lean Library will also automatically deliver you open access versions (if one is available), when the Library Hub does not provide subscription access.

All staff, students and members of the University of Divinity also have reciprocal borrowing rights at the University of Melbourne.
In 2020 the University of Divinity introduced a single Style Guide, which can be used as a referencing guide by theology students at all Colleges. It is based on the latest version of the Chicago Manual of Style.
The online and PDF versions of the Style Guide both include links to the Chicago Manual of Style Online.
In study areas such as counselling and education, another form of referencing may be required (e.g. APA). Further information about the American Psychological Association style is available on the "Other Styles" tab on the Style Guide.
EndNote 20 is now available for all staff and students at the University -
EndNote isn't for everyone, and so the EndNote LibGuide also suggests alternative and simple ways to add citations to your essays and assignments, using the cite functionality available in the Library Hub.
The combined collections of the libraries affiliated with the University and its Colleges, together with the University's Library Hub, provide access to an extensive range of resources that support excellence in learning, teaching and research.
For enquiries related to access to University-wide library resources please email and a member of the Library Hub team at Mannix Library will be happy to assist.
