I absolutely loved this YNAB article about some of us having headwinds in our finances, and some of us having tailwinds. The very real racial wealth gap. So well put. And devastating and unfair.

Read here:

For the quick recap, here are their major categories of assets:

Home (property/real estate)

Education

Family support system

Social Capital/your network

Inherited Wealth

I'd enjoy hearing from you...when you take an honest look at your life, what have been your headwinds and what have been your tailwinds? And, extra credit if you'd like to share any feels you have about any of that.

YNAB's Quiz answer from above:

"8) Salary,
6) size of retirement savings, and
3) how much debt you have.

While all topics were taboo at some level, these three categories all relating to money were considered “most taboo” by a noteworthy margin. See the data."
FeelGood moment + Small Business Inspiration...

I told some of you about the wonderful experience I had at Woodlands where an employee took care of an elderly gentleman like the human angel she is.

I wrote the store a thank-you card. I literally left in happy tears. Wanted to share with you (and I did get his permission) how the store owner responded back.

Dear Beth,

Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to write such a nice letter!

Recruiting and retaining great staff is the most important thing I can do for the business.  And it’s one of the hardest things to get right.

Hailey is definitely a rock star.  She’s a genuinely warm and wonderful human being, and she loves pets and our customers – perfect combination!

I’ve taken the liberty of sharing with our team the fact that you were inspired to put pen to paper and mail a letter, because Hailey was being a “good human being” while at work.  It means a lot that you were willing to make that time, with so much else going on.  I will also recognize Hailey with a gift card on her next shift.

Once again, I’d like to thank you for taking the time let me know about your experience with us, and for making the choice to shop at Woodlands Pet Food & Treats.  I hope we might become your regular place for pet food & supplies!  We were already facing increasing competition from the big chain stores in this area, and now with the pandemic many people are choosing to skip local brick & mortar stores, so your choice to shop at our Truly Local Marin County Business means more now than ever.

Thanks again,

Rob
